The genesis of this deck came when a post about the World Championship Chaos Restrict deck by Miltiadis Markou accidentally linked to the Wikia page for Chaos Nephthys instead of Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys. Through testing, I learned that Chaos Nephthys is much more viable in modern Yugioh than the classic Chaos bosses for its ability to summon on the opponent's turn and disrupt their combos.
Notes (4/13/2024): After the February 2024 TCG Forbidden List, hits to Baronne de Fleur and Linkuriboh have made the deck unplayable. So I have decided to preserve its final form here. I added Chaos Ruler because, even though it is banned in the TCG and now OCG, it plays really well in this deck. And how can I call this Chaos Beatdown without arguably the best Chaos boss monster?
For those interested, my account's pseudonym is borrowed from the real life mathematician James Gleick, whose nonfiction book Chaos: Making a New Science popularized chaos theory in popular literature. The author himself was the direct inspiration for the character Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park.
Some thoughts about the game YuGiOh:
-After tthe April 2024 list, I am convinced there is a consistent Thunder Dragon-Chaos Angel lockdown that will make its way into the competitive circuit. I would find a way to do it fast, because I suspect it will get either card banned in the near future.
-The banning of Baronne de Fleur is part of a trend in the game to ban cards that are so effective and generic that they find their way into nearly every deck. For example, Dragoon is unbanned in the TCG whereas Chaos Ruler is now universally unavailable. The difference is that while Dragoon is a stronger card, it is not as broadly splashable as Chaos Ruler.
-On that note, I am critical of the use of the banlist to police broadly useable cards, which leads me to a surprising conclusion. Although the Forbidden List has been necessaary to block toxic lockouts and FTKs, it appears heavy handed and arbitrary for Konami to ban cards which themselves do not ruin the experience of playing the game.
-Dimension Shifter, for instance, has been called to be Forbidden for a couple years now, because every viable modern Yugioh archetype uses graveyard effects. Yet Necrovalley passes untouched, perhaps because it gets errata'd every other year. And it is only unbanned because not every deck plays it. Yet speaking as a Chaos player, I believe Dimension Shifter is a card that should at least be side decked in every competitive deck in today's game.
-For this reason, now for months, I have come to believe that Konami should be a little more judicious in what it chooses to Forbid and to Limit. For instance, I believe Kitkallos should have only been Limited. I do not believe Thunder Dragon Colossus should have ever been Forbidden. And I think it is long overdue for Pot of Greed to be moved to Limited.
