Making an update to my Harpie List for 2026.... And until I figure something out. We cry. The one card that made this deck any sort of level of competitive just got banned in Harpie's Feather Storm, and understandably so. So now the deck really needs new support. Will get to brainstorming. The rest of this post is unchanged from last update. Also deciding to try out Shiina as a hand trap to see how it plays. Seems pretty strong.
This deck is probably as competitive as its gonna get (which isn't very much) until Harpies get a new wave of support (fingers crossed). I've made some big changes compared to the previous list, and I have some thoughts to get through (again):
The Biggest Change: Primite over Swallow's Cowrie.
If you didn't see my previous list, I had originally swapped Small World for Swallow's Cowrie as it was a much better version of the card for Harpies. I think if you decide to run Swallow's Cowrie as a more budget option to the Primite engine, I would probably recommend bumping Harpist up to 2 or 3 as a good fodder card to tribute, as it gets you your card back end of turn if it gets negated (but at that point you might have already lost if you don't have Channeler). Swallow's Cowrie is also a quick play so you can tag it out in response to your opponent attempting to Imperm or Veiler your Channeler.
As for Primite, I've been playing it for a while in a few decks, and while I know some people argue that Primite makes certain archetypes no longer pure I simply disagree. Primite at this point is a must have for any archetype that runs normal monsters and makes any deck that has them infinitely more competitive and playable. Drillbeam control is always a good fallback when your main engine is stopped and can often keep you in the game or even just outright win it. I am opting to play just the 1 copy of Ether Beryl simply because I want the main normal summon of the deck to still be Channeler. But if I don't open channeler and I open a Lordly Lode for example, it can still be a very good starter that can go into a Cyber Slash Harpie Lady off of the special summon. Cyber Slash only requires 1 Harpie monster, so you can use Beryl as the other material to go into it.
Also, Elegant Egotist can keep Drillbeam live if you open it or Hysteric Sign, so for that reason I am playing 2 Drillbeam, and was considering playing 3.
I think even if you are not playing Lordly Lode or Beryl you can still play Drillbeam at 3 as a board breaker going second, or a powerful interuption going first.
Main Engine Monsters and Spells:
Still playing 3 Channeler, Perfumer, and Pet Dragon. They're the most important cards for the engine to work in my opinion. Channeler is the only real starter for the deck outside of the Primite cards unfortunately. I hope they print more starters. The deck desparately needs them... plus a couple more extra deck monsters TBH. Playing 3 of the other Harpies at 1 apiece. Queen, Oracle, and Harpist. I also cut down on some of the spells/traps. Hysteric Party feels bad. There is nothing to search it or set it from the deck, so its too slow, although its effect is pretty nice. Hunting Ground is at 1 now for space and consistency. Would be nice if there was a way to recycle some of the Harpie Spells outside of Egotist.
Sticking with the Normal Harpie Lady for obvious reasons. It's also easier now to go into the Link Spider/Accesscode line, if you open any of Normal Harpie + Egotist, Lordly Lode, or something similar where you end up with 2 Normal Harpie in play. There are some other options outside of the Accesscode line that I saw that were decent, like Jessie Kotton's package with the Zoodiac XYZs for a better AA-ZEUS and some Tri-Brigade stuff. I like sticking with the Accesscode line for now.
Non-Engine Changes:
Trying out Shiina, Twin Tempests just for the heck of it. Seems like a pretty strong hand trap for Wind decks.
I moved Ash Blossom to the side for Dominus Purge. I just wanted to try it out and seems really strong in the current meta. Forbidden Droplet is still manditory I think. It lets you fetch Feather Storm, which is still insane. Imperm is still amazing, and Called By is basically manditory because Channeler is super vulnerable to hand traps. Could also consider Magnumhut in the main or side deck because it can search Pet Dragon, but I decided not to for now. I also decided to play 1 copy of Thrust. Mostly as another way to search Feather Storm or Duster. But it can get a couple other cards that are decent as well. Getting Egotist isn't bad if either perfumer or channeler are interupted. Also playing Talent now too.
Side Deck Changes:
The side deck is very flexible I think. Could simply choose based on your local environment. If people are playing Maliss, you can play Lancea. Retaliating C for Dracotail, Pankratops for Yummy, Kaijus for Lunalight, etc.
Extra Deck Changes:
Put Chidori back in, replacing Big Eye. I rarely went into Big Eye. Similar to Chidori previously, but I think the bounce 2 off of Chidori is maybe a little better right now. Also having another rank 4 is kinda nice. Still playing the Accesscode package with Crystal Heart, Heatsoul, and 2 Link Spider (courtesy of Dark Armed Duelist), which takes up quite a bit of space, but it makes up for the lack of OTK potential Harpies have. Playing Imduk and Hieratic Seal is also a good option. And the Zoodiac package of Chakanine into Boarbow, into either Drident, or a big ZEUS.
I still play 2 Cyber Slash, the second one can come up very often. Dracossack is mandatory, provides link fodder for either the Accesscode line, or an S:P line or Conductor. Still playing AA-ZEUS and TY-PHON.
If you managed to read all of that, I appreciate you for taking the time. I love the game of YuGiOh, even when the formats get a little rough sometimes. I really hope Konami does the same thing for Harpies as they did for Blue-Eyes. Same goes for all the other nostalgia archetypes; they're the reason I got back into the game, and still play now.
