Ars Magna World Chalice
Deck Primer
One of the biggest boons that World Chalice has gotten in the past couple of months is the reveal of the Ars Magna cards. Because the Ars Magna archetype is centralized around its (current) boss monster of Medicurius the Power Patron of Illusions, a Link Monster, their Main Deck monsters are quite beneficial for most Link Summoning Decks as they can provide either extension or potential pieces of interruption for your endboard. For World Chalice, the biggest benefit that the Ars Magna cards give is even more consistent access to Medius the Pure in addition to sometimes acting as extenders. However, you do not need to always use the Ars Magna cards as extenders in every situation as whether or not you are even able to access them in the first place, you are still able to end on the same endboard. Prior to their reveal, Medius had cards like Artmage Vandalism -Assault-, Theorealize, and Prohibited Power Patron Portal - Terminus in order to immediately search for Medius in addition to just hard opening him. With the introduction of the Ars Magna cards, that number of searches has increased with Ars Magna of Infinity and Finity, Ars Magna of Purification and Corruption, and Ars Magna - “Citrinitas”. Elfnote Tinia also falls into this category of cards that can access or search Medius as she can access Citrinitas from Deck since it is always treated as an Elfnote card.
This Deck could’ve still existed and be played the exact same way prior to the release of the Ars Magna cards, instead replacing them with other Medius outlets like the ones stated earlier in addition to cards like Diviner of the Herald and Armageddon Knight or even Elemental HERO Prisma. The issue with this approach to the Deck, especially concerning the Normal Summons, is that you are less often able to bait out interaction before committing to a play. It doesn’t help that this Deck still folds to most forms of interaction at any point during its combo, but having the ability to test the waters first makes the Ars Magna version of the Deck feel a little better to play. Not to mention that the extension provided by the As Magna monsters can maybe help you recover mid-combo if met with a less detrimental form of interaction. So, how does Medius the Pure even enable World Chalice? Normal Summoning Medius and activating his effect on Summon to Special Summon Elfnote Power Patron from Deck immediately gives you the ability to make Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. But instead of using Ib to search for a World Legacy Spell or Trap, this method uses her to search for World Legacy - “World Chalice”, making it a much more consistent form of accessing World Chalice at the cost of taking up one of your potential searches for a World Legacy Spell or Trap instead. Elfnote Power Patron, if sent to GY as Synchro Material, searches for an Elfnote card from Deck. We are going to use this effect to search for one of the 3 Level 6 Elfnote monsters from BPRO: Elfnote Lucina, Elfnote Tinia, or Elfnote Fortuna. Each of them has their own merits. Lucina searches for an Elfnote monster, getting you one of the other two for another potential extender or piece of interaction. Tinia places an Elfnote Continuous Spell from Deck face-up on your field, which notably accesses Ars Magna - “Citrinitas” which would then allow you to access the Ars Magna monsters or search for a Medius for follow-up. Fortuna places an Elfnote Continuous Trap from hand or Deck face-up on your field, which can get Elfnotes: Rhapsodia of Madness, a card that can reborn an Elfnote monster from GY and then possibly negate the effects of a face-up card your opponent controls if you control a Synchro. Obviously, we are going to go with Tinia, but the other two have their merits in this Deck as well. Then, we can use Tinia and Ib to Link Summon Rahamu, Envoy of the Sacred Tome, who notably gives an extra Normal Summon of a Level 5 or higher DARK monster without Tributing, allowing you to Normal Summon World Chalice. From there, you can proceed like normal and build-up your endboard, which usually consists of 2 World Legacy - “World Chalice”, Lib the World Key Blademaster, S:P Little Knight, W:P Fancy Ball, and a set World Legacy Landmark.
Your combo realistically only needs Medius the Pure, but be mindful of zones. Normal Summon Medius and activate his effect to Special Summon Elfnote Power Patron from Deck. Synchro them into Ib the World Chalice Justiciar (anywhere but the center Main Monster Zone). Chain Link 1 Ib on field and Chain Link 2 Power Patron in GY. Power Patron adds Elfnote Tinia from Deck to hand and Ib adds World Legacy - “World Chalice” from Deck to hand. Special Summon Tinia to the center MMZ and then activate her effect to place Ars Magna - “Citrinitas” from Deck face-up on your field. Use the effect of Citrinitas to add Ars Magna of Infinity and Finity from Deck to hand. Link Ib and Tinia into Rahamu, Envoy of the Sacred Tome into the right EMZ. Ib triggers in GY to Special Summon another World Legacy - “World Chalice” from Deck to the second from left MMZ. Activate Rahamu’s effect to extra Normal Summon the World Chalice in your hand without Tributing to the MMZ it points to. Link this Normal Summoned World Chalice into Galatea-I, the Orcust Automaton. World Chalice Triggers in GY and Special Summons any World Chalice Normal Monster from Deck to the center MMZ and Lee the World Chalice Fairy from Deck to the MMZ underneath Rahamu. Lee triggers on Summon to add World Chalice Guardragon from Deck to hand. Activate Galatea-I’s effect, sending the WC Guardragon in your hand to the GY, to add another World Legacy - “World Chalice” from Deck to hand. Link Galatea-I and Lee into Lib the World Key Blademaster to the zone Rahamu points to. Activate Lib’s effect to set World Legacy Landmark from Deck. Link the World Chalice Normal Monster you got into Imduk the World Chalice Dragon in the zone Lib points to. Link Rahamu and Imduk into W:P Fancy Ball into the left EMZ. Imduk triggers in GY to Special Summon the World Legacy - “World Chalice” in your hand to any zone (doesn’t matter anymore). Activate WC Guardragon in GY, banishing it and targeting the World Chalice Normal Monster in your GY and Special Summoning it to a zone your Link Monster points to. Link that Normal Monster into another Imduk the World Chalice Dragon. Activate Lee’s effect in GY to send a monster from your hand to the GY to add Lee back to hand. Extra Normal Summon Lee using Imduk and Link Lee and Imduk into S:P Little Knight. On your opponent’s turn, W:P Fancy Ball and use itself and Lib to Link Summon either Perfectron Hydradrive Dragon or Charmer Quartet in Bloom. Lib would then be able to spin a card your opponent controls into the Deck. If you make Perfectron Hydradrive Dragon, you can use Landmark to banish 1 of your World Chalices in order to bring back W:P Fancy Ball and either Tinia or the 3rd World Chalice in your GY. If you make Charmer Quartet, it can bring back W:P Fancy Ball and a World Legacy - “World Chalice” from GY. Then, you can later use Landmark to banish a World Chalice to bring back 2 monsters from your GY.
If you want to see me discuss the cards that haven’t changed in the Deck, you can look at my previous lists (Radiant Typhoon World Chalice - Radiant Typhoon World Chalice Post LOCH/LOCR). Otherwise, I am just going to talk about cards that I cut as well as new additions.
For the Normal Monsters, I am playing 1 Chosen by the World Chalice and 1 Crowned by the World Chalice. It really does not matter what 2 World Chalice Normal Monsters you are playing. You could choose to instead play Beckoned by the World Chalice, 2 copies of the same vanilla, or any combination of them. Because we don’t need to use specifically Chosen by the World Chalice as a Level 3 to Synchro with Lee the World Chalice Fairy to make Ib the World Chalice Justiciar, all you really need is at least 1 vanilla in the Main Deck to Special Summon off of the effect of World Legacy - “World Chalice”. For Lee the World Chalice Fairy, she has been cut down to 2 copies. The Radiant Typhoon cards allowed you to put 2 bodies onto the field without using your Normal Summon in order to Link Summon Rahamu, Envoy of the Sacred Tome. Lee would then be your Normal Summon to search for World Chalice to then extra Normal without Tributing with Rahamu. Since this Deck’s entire combo starts with just Medius the Pure while still being able to access World Chalice, Lee doesn’t need to be played at 3 just to ensure that you have some way to search for World Chalice at the beginning of your combo. Similar to the World Chalice Normal Monsters, you just need at least 1 copy of her in Deck to Special Summon off of World Chalice and she would then search for World Chalice Guardragon as per usual. I have already made the case for why I am playing 1 Elfnote Tinia. She accesses Ars Magna - “Citrinitas”, which either then gives you access to Medius to start your combo or access to the Ars Magna monsters for extension. Again, there are arguments for playing either Elfnote Lucina or Elfnote Fortuna instead, but Tinia just has a bit more direct synergy than them. 3 Medius the Pure. You should know what he does by now, especially since Elfnote, DoomZ, and Artmage are still making the rounds. On Normal or Special Summon, he can add or Special Summon a Power Patron monster from Deck. If he’s in your GY, you can shuffle a monster from your hand or face-up field into the Deck and then Special Summon him, but he’s banished when he leaves the field. Genuinely such a great enabler for so many Decks, especially the archetypes that are a part of the Medius lore. Being able to bring him back from GY is also insanely useful. While it can allow him to act as a potential extender, it is more important for the fact that any card that can send him from Deck to GY acts as basically a searcher for him. 2 Elfnote Power Patron. You are Synchro-locked from the Extra Deck while you control it and if it is sent to the GY as Synchro Material, you can search for an Elfnote card from Deck. Those are the only 2 effects that are relevant in this Deck for the most part, especially that second effect. Being able to search for an Elfnote after Synchro Summoning just so happens to be what makes this Deck even function in the first place. Otherwise, we’d need to have an extender in addition to Medius in our opener. But, a Level 1 Tuner that can be Summoned from Deck off of Normal Summoning the Level 4 Medius is enough for me to like it. For the Ars Magna monsters, we are playing 3 each of Ars Magna of Infinity and Finity and Ars Magna of Purification and Corruption. I do think that the Ars Magna playstyle is kind of interesting, especially since the Main Deck monsters all enable something multiplied by 3 in relation to your Power Patron Link Monsters. However, for the purposes of this Deck, they are kind of just searchers and extenders. They can be used as interruption and this Deck does technically play the enablers for that, but it is more of a cute alternative play you can make in this Deck rather than something that is actually better than or similar in power to the endboard that we are already ending on. Each Level 8 Ars Magna monster can banish themselves from hand to do something in addition to affecting something related to Power Patron Link Monsters. You are almost never going to readily benefit from the Ars Magna monsters’ effects on Power Patron Links, so you are better off ignoring them for this Deck. Infinity and Finity banishes itself from hand to search for a non-Warrior Ars Magna from Deck. Purification and Corruption searches for an Ars Magna Spell/Trap from Deck instead. They also can Special Summon themselves from banishment if a certain Extra Deck Monster Type is Special Summoned: Fusion or Links for Infinity and Finity and Synchro or Links for Purification and Corruption. Lastly, each of them have a unique 3rd effect that requires you to control a Power Patron Link Monster. Infinity and Finity targets and banishes a monster on field while Purification and Corruption targets and banishes Spell/Traps on the field up to the number of your Power Patron Link Monsters. These 3rd effects can be used as Quick Effect pieces of interruption with Ars Magna - “Citrinitas” while you control a Power Patron Link Monster, and this Deck has the ability to set this up. But again, it is just something cute you can do rather than a more powerful or equally as powerful alternative to your normal endboard.
For Spell/Traps, the new additions are 3 Theorealize and 3 Ars Magna - “Citrinitas”. Theorealize sends Medius the Pure from Deck to GY as cost and then allows you to look at the top card of your opponent’s Deck and either place it on the top or bottom of the Deck. Other than being a way to dump Medius from Deck to GY without worrying about Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring or Dominus Purge, it gives you a peek at what your opponent is going to draw, allowing you to bottom an important piece of engine or a harmful piece of nonengine breaker. Not that crazy, but it is something cute and potentially impactful that you are able to do. You can also banish it from GY and target a face-up monster you control, declaring a Monster Type and Attribute, making that monster become that Type and Attribute until the end of your opponent’s turn. Can’t really make use of this effect in this Deck since I am not playing any of the Theorealize searchers to really make seeking out this card for this effect any more meaningful. However, in testing, I did find a use for it, which is that when your Elfnote Power Patron’s GY effect gets negated and you have Theorealize in GY, you can banish it targeting Ib the World Chalice Justiciar and declare LIGHT Fiend in order to be able to Link her off into Fiendsmith’s Requiem. Requiem and the World Chalice monster that Ib floats into would then be able to make Rahamu, Envoy of the Sacred Tome to extra Normal Summon without Tributing your World Chalice. Not that you are always going to be able to do this though since, again, we aren’t playing any of the Theorealize searchers and quite frankly, if your opponent is going to Ash something, it’s probably going to be Medius and not the GY effect of your Power Patron. Citrinitas is always treated as an Artmage, DoomZ, and Elfnote card, which is cool for making it very searchable. It turns your Ars Magna monsters’ effects into Quick Effects while you control a Power Patron Link Monster, and once while it is face-up on the field, you can add a Medius or Ars Magna monster from Deck to hand. Being able to either use this as a Medius searcher to get to your starter or use it as an Ars Magna searcher for extension is pretty cool in the context of this Deck. Not too crazy about turning your Ars Magna monsters’ effects into Quick Effects since this isn’t an Ars Magna Deck, so you can’t make use of this effect’s maximum potential.
Not too much different in the Extra Deck. I already explained the usage for Charmer Quartet in Bloom earlier. As for Purification Power Patron, if you finagle some cards, you are able to end on this card instead of S:P Little Knight, which would then allow you to World Legacy Landmark back Ars Magna of Infinity and Finity and/or Ars Magna of Purification and Corruption from GY to use them as pieces of interruption if you also control Ars Magna - “Citrinitas” since Purification Power Patron is a Power Patron Link Monster. The other Power Patron Link Monster we are playing is Medicurius the Power Patron of Illusions. I don’t think that it is as crazy as a lot of people were saying it was on reveal. It requires 2+ monsters including a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link as material and it gains effects based on the number of monsters it points to. 1+ gives him the ability to negate the effects of all face-up monsters your opponent currently controls, also halving their ATK until the end of the turn. 2+ makes it unaffected by your opponent’s activated effects. 3 allows you to, once per opponent’s turn, Quick Effect banish him and all cards your opponent controls. This Deck can easily make Medicurius and have him pointing to 3 monsters, but the issue is that you frequently need to shotgun his effect to banish himself and your opponent’s field as your first piece of interruption. Your monsters that this card is likely to point to either have Quick Effects to perform a Link Summon or Tribute themselves to activate their effect, so keeping Medicurius pointing to 3 monsters to wait for the perfect time to banish your opponent’s board is a bit difficult to do optimally. Still, you can still make him and do all of this. It’s not the worst thing this Deck can end on. Also, if you really wanted to, you can give him more usage in the Extra Deck by playing Prohibited Power Patron Portal - Terminus and sending him from Extra Deck to GY to be able to search for Medius.
Side Deck: 3 Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju, 3 Mulcharmy Fuwalos, 2 Pot of Sloth, 1 Harpie’s Feather Duster, 2 Triple Tactics Thrust, 1 Triple Tactics Talent, and 3 Evenly Matched. Kind of just all cards to side in going second to ensure that you are able to get to your, otherwise very interruptable, plays.
