Radiant Typhoon World Chalice
Deck Primer
World Chalice is certainly one of the archetypes of all time. While it has had a few regional tops from years ago, including legendary runs at Tier 3 events by Marco Perico, it was never considered a very good deck in the long run. The Deck’s playstyle is really simple. It does revolve around Normal Monsters, but its main gimmick is to put a whole bunch of monsters out onto the field for you to use as Link Material. All of their Link Monsters (including Ib the World Chalice Justiciar) float when sent from field to GY, World Legacy - “World Chalice” straight-up just Special Summons 2 World Chalice monsters from Deck, Imduk the World Chalice Dragon gives an additional Normal Summon of a World Chalice, and you could always play a plethora of generic extenders. I am not completely sure what this Deck aimed to do upon release other than set-up Firewall Dragon and Tri-Gate Wizard, but as soon as Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess was released, all that this Deck really aimed to do at that point was shotgun its way to her. Was it ever really good, even at this point? Not really. The combos it had were interruptable, not completely ending your turn at the time, but it still would have an effect on your possible endboards. And the boards that it did make were still very weak against going second staples. Both of these are still true to this day, to an even greater degree.
.There are several issues with World Chalice. The first issue is that if you don’t Normal Summon World Legacy - “World Chalice”, you really are not able to get much of anything started. You really do need to get a Normal Summoned/Set Chalice to leave the field to Special Summon 2 World Chalice monsters from Deck to get the ball rolling. Otherwise, your ability to do Link plays is pretty mediocre. That brings us into the second issue with the Deck: it doesn’t have a great starter. 1-card starters are not necessary for every Deck, but they are certainly welcome in the current landscape of the game. Because you would like to Tribute Summon World Chalice and then immediately get it into the GY to trigger its effect, you are pretty often relying on 2-card combos, sometimes even needing to rely on more costly combos that require more hand investment. And, it sure doesn’t help that Chalice’s GY trigger effect is a massive weak point for the Deck. If a card Special Summons 2 monsters from Deck, it’d probably be a good idea to negate it in most scenarios. The third issue with the Deck is that it doesn’t have much to end on. Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess is banned. There isn’t a single World Chalice Link Monster that interacts with your opponent on their turn (or even your own turn except for Ningirsu, the World Chalice Warrior). And if you want to be going into Link Monsters like Firewall Dragon or a significant amount of LINK-3 and LINK-4 monsters, you are going to have to fill your Deck to the brim with extenders rather than non-engine. What the Deck CAN end on, is the World Legacy monsters: specifically, Chalice, Armor, Shield, Lance, Crown, Wand, and Ark, because Key doesn’t actually do anything for us. But, for the ones that actually can interact with your opponent, they only interact with your opponent’s monsters that were Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. While that is still useful, it does limit the type of interruption you are able to end on. Besides, there are plenty of other Link-spam Decks out there that can do their job much better than World Chalice can. The fourth and last most significant issue the Deck has is its inability to play through interruption. I already mentioned how Chalice is the Deck’s biggest chokepoint, but almost any handtrap can end your turn, especially the biggest culprits in Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Droll & Lock Bird, and Nibiru, the Primal Being. The Deck doesn’t even play well into any Mulcharmies either. And don’t even get me started on boardbreakers.
Has the Deck gotten better over the years? Yes and no. Losing Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess was a massive hit to the Deck, and with many Decks now playing a ton of non-engine, the world currently isn’t too fitting for World Chalice to exist comfortably. But, it has gotten a ton of indirect support over the years. I’m talking about the Primite cards, the new Psychic Support, the new Orcust Support (from ETCO to BLMM), S:P Little Knight as a good generic Link Monster who can provide interruption, Piri Reis Map to search for Chalice, and the card that I want to focus on today, Lahamu the Messenger of Sacred Scripture. Lahamu is a generic LINK-2 that has 3 effects. If it is Link Summoned, while it is on the field, you can Normal Summon 1 Level 5 or higher monster without Tributing, but only once. Also, during the Main Phase, you can Quick Effect immediately Normal Summon a Level 5 or higher DARK monster, which should be noted that this is a Normal Summon by the effect of Lahamu and does not take-up your Normal Summon/Set for that turn. These are the 2 main effects of Lahamu that World Chalice benefits from, but its last effect isn’t too bad either. During your End Phase, you can reveal any number of monsters in your hand, place them on the bottom of the Deck in any order, and draw the same number of cards. What Lahamu does is turn a hand that has World Legacy - “World Chalice” and any way to put a LINK-2’s worth of material on board, into a decent World Chalice combo. In addition to that, it makes Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight a 1-card starter for the Deck. You can’t exactly play Orcust cards to get to Girsu, because they all DARK-lock you for the rest of the turn, but we can use a Radiant Typhoon engine to get that LINK-2’s worth of material on board. So, all we would really need to do from there is open Chalice. Again, World Chalice is super interruptible and boardbreakers are going to stomp your endboards, but having a good starting point for World Chalice in 2026 is already a big win for the Deck. This Deck still has its share of issues though. Specifically, it is easy to interrupt and your pieces of interruption mostly revolve around monsters your opponent Special Summons from the Extra Deck instead of something more general. But what can you really do?
Your usual combo starts with a Radiant Typhoon monster and World Legacy - “World Chalice”. Let’s say that you have Radiant Typhoon Eldam. Special Summon Eldam from hand and activate its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Swen from Deck to hand. Special Summon Swen from hand and activate its effect to search for Radiant Typhoon Ascendance. Link both into Lahamu the Messenger of Sacred Scripture. Activate Lahamu’s effect to immediately Normal Summon World Legacy - “World Chalice” and apply Lahamu’s effect to Normal Summon it without Tributing. Link World Chalice into Galatea-I, the Orcust Automaton. World Chalice triggers in GY to Special Summon Chosen by the World Chalice and Lee the World Chalice Fairy from Deck. Lee triggers on Special Summon to add World Chalice Guardragon from Deck to hand. Activate Galatea-I’s effect, sending WC Guardragon from hand to GY, to add another World Legacy - “World Chalice” from Deck to hand. Synchro Chosen and Lee into Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. Ib triggers on Synchro Summon to add World Legacy’s Secret from Deck to hand. Link Ib and Galatea-I into Lib the World Key Blademaster. Ib triggers in GY to Special Summon another World Legacy - “World Chalice” from Deck. Activate Lib’s effect to set World Legacy’s Heart from Deck. Banish WC Guardragon from GY to activate its effect, targeting Chosen in the GY, to Special Summon it to the zone Lib points to. Link Chosen into Imduk the World Chalice Dragon. Activate Lee’s effect in GY, sending Imduk from field to GY, to add Lee to hand. Imduk triggers in GY to Special Summon the World Legacy - “World Chalice” in your hand. Activate Radiant Typhoon Ascendance to Special Summon either Swen or Eldam from GY. Then, because you haven’t Normal Summoned for turn yet, Normal Summon Lee. Link Lee and whatever monster you brought back with Succession into I:P Masquerena. Activate the set World Legacy’s Heart, targeting the World Legacy - “World Chalice” in your GY and Ib in your GY, add World Chalice to hand and add Ib back to the Extra Deck. Finally, set World Legacy’s Secret. Let’s look at what we are ending on. You have Lahamu who can Quick Effect immediately Normal Summon the World Legacy - “World Chalice” in your hand on your opponent’s turn. Masquerena can Quick Effect Link Summon with Lib to go into S:P Little Knight or Sky Striker Ace - Azalea during your opponent’s Main Phase. If Lib is sent to GY as Link Material, she can shuffle a card on field into the Deck. Then, you have the 2 World Legacy - “World Chalice” on field, including the third one that you Normal Summon from hand on your opponent’s turn with Lahamu. They can Tribute themselves if a monster(s) is Special Summoned from your opponent’s Extra Deck to send those monsters to the GY. And because they Tribute themselves to use their effect, you can bring one of them back with World Legacy’s Secret to use World Chalice’s effect a 4th time. Weird how that’s the only effect on World Chalice that isn’t a once per turn.
Main Deck: 2 Chosen by the World Chalice. If you want to play Normal Monsters in World Chalice, it kinda has to be one of the World Chalice Normal Monsters. The archetype doesn’t actually interact with Normal Monsters like how a Deck like Magikey does. But, Chosen is probably the best Normal Monster to play in World Chalice. It is usually between Chosen and Beckoned by the World Chalice, specifically for making Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. But, since Chosen is also a Level 3 Psychic monster, it can be Summoned off of Emergency Teleport, allowing the new Psychic Support to be a consideration in World Chalice. 3 Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight. On Normal or Special Summon, it can send an Orcust or World Legacy card from Deck to GY, and then if there are 2+ other cards in its column, it can be treated as a Tuner this turn. Also, if you control no other monsters, you can Special Summon a World Legacy Token to both fields in Defense. Again, Girsu is basically a 1-card starter for this Deck, but it sadly cannot be searched since most Orcust cards that search Girsu also lock you into DARK monsters for the rest of the turn. For its first effect, you are usually just sending another copy of Girsu from Deck to the GY since you aren’t playing any other Main Deck Orcust cards and there aren’t any World Legacy cards you want in GY. But, that just gives more Orcust cards in GY for Galatea-I, the Orcust Automaton to banish to Special Summon herself from GY. But, the most important part of Girsu is definitely his Token-making effect, since the Token can be used to make Galatea-I who then searches for Chalice. For the Radiant Typhoon monsters: 3 Radiant Typhoon Eldam and 2 Radiant Typhoon Swen. Both can be Special Summoned from hand if you have Mystical Space Typhoon in GY or if your opponent controls no Spell/Traps (and this is not an activated effect). On Normal or Special Summon, both monsters either search for an MST or a different card: Eldam searches for a Radiant Typhoon monster while Swen searches for a Radiant Typhoon Spell/Trap. Eldam and Swen, making up the Radiant Typhoon engine, give so many Decks the ability to put out 2 or more monster’s worth of material on the field without using your Normal Summon. It is so good. Originally, I was using them to make Materiactor Exagard to Special Summon Prima Materiactor from Deck to then use as Link Material for Imduk the World Chalice Dragon, but that was before I remembered that Lahamu the Messenger of Sacred Scripture was coming out in BLZD. For the World Chalice Effect Monsters, we have 3 World Legacy - “World Chalice”, 3 Lee the World Chalice Fairy, and 1 World Chalice Guardragon. World Chalice has 3 different effects. The first is: If a monster(s) is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, except during the Damage Step, you can Tribute Chalice as cost to send that monster(s) to the GY. This effect is not once per turn, so if you have multiple copies of World Legacy - “World Chalice” on field, you can send monsters your opponent Special Summons from the Extra Deck to the GY multiple times, which is what this Deck aims to do. While it is good, this Deck would also appreciate some more generic forms of removal, such as any card or effect that straight-up just pops a card on field, in addition to this. World Chalice’s second effect is that if World Chalice is Normal Summoned/Set and then leaves the field, you can Special Summon 2 World Chalice monsters from Deck except for World Legacy - World Chalice. This is how you either get more Link Material onto the field or get the correct Levels of monsters to make Ib, but you are usually doing the latter since Ib could then translate to more Link Material by herself. However, please keep in mind that this effect of World Chalice is the biggest chokepoint in the Deck. Think of World Chalice as having a massive target on its back for interruption, similar to cards like Tri-Brigade Arms - Mouser or Majespecter Orthrus - Nue. World Chalice’s last effect allows you to banish it from GY during the Main Phase, except during the turn it was sent there, to add a World Legacy card from Deck to hand. This is quite a nice effect to search for follow-up, and it also allows us to not have to play a second copy of Lib the World Key Blademaster in the Extra Deck since you have World Chalice to search for a World Legacy card on turn 3 as opposed to making a second Lib to set a World Legacy card from Deck. Lee, on Normal or Special Summon, can add a World Chalice monster from Deck to hand. If you are getting Lee from Deck off of World Chalice, you are always searching for World Chalice Guardragon with her, but she can also be Normal Summoned to search for World Chalice itself if you open with a Radiant Typhoon monster. Lee’s other effect is that if she is in the GY, you can send a monster from hand or field to the GY to add her to hand. This is a really good effect because you can send World Chalice Link Monsters you control to GY for Lee’s effect, which triggers their floating effects to Special Summon a World Chalice monster from hand. What that IS a 1-for-1 trade for monsters on your side of the field, it is useful to put a non-Link Monster on the field to use as Link Material for I:P Masquerena, who cannot use a Link Monster as Link Material. This is, however, rectified by W:P Fancy Ball, whose effect was just revealed as I was writing this. So, think of that as kind of another boon to World Chalice in the future, somewhat. World Chalice Guardragon is only being used for its second effect in this Deck, which is that you can banish it from GY and target a Normal Monster in GY to Special Summon that monster in Defense to Linkpoint. An extender that is searchable is good. Its hand effect reads that when a card or effect is activated that targets your linked monster, you can Quick Effect send WC Guardragon from hand to GY to negate the activation and destroy that card. Is this a good effect? Yes. But, it is still more useful as an extender. This Deck’s main combo is already fragile enough that any piece of interaction is going to really hurt your chances of making a solid endboard. Fading one piece of interaction that specifically targets your linked monster doesn’t do a whole lot in an environment where your opponent is likely to open 2 or more handtraps. For our handtraps, we are only Main Decking 3 Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and 2 Droll & Lock Bird. I did consider Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, but I eventually cut it for copies of The Fallen & The Virtuous. However, it is still a good card you could play.
For Spell/Traps: 3 Piri Reis Map. This card can only be activated at the start of your Main Phase 1 and it adds a monster with 0 ATK from your Deck to your hand, halving your Life Points. But, you cannot activate the effects of monsters with its name until the end of the next turn, until you Normal Summon that monster. This card searches for World Legacy - “World Chalice”. 2 World Legacy Succession, which targets a monster in your GY and Special Summons it to Linkpoint. If you open Swen instead of Eldam, you most likely will not have Radiant Typhoon Ascendance, so you will be using Lib the World Key Blademaster’s effect to set Succession for extension instead. But, you can also search it for follow-up with World Chalice’s GY effect to do some Link Summoning on your following turn. 1 World Legacy’s Heart. It can target 2 World Chalice monsters with different names in your GY and add them to your hand. If you are using Heart in the same way as I described in the combo above, World Legacy - “World Chalice” and Ib the World Chalice Justiciar are definitely the picks in that scenario. Otherwise, I’d probably target Chosen by the World Chalice and World Legacy - “World Chalice”, especially if you are doing this as follow-up, since you can Normal Summon Chosen, Link into Imduk the World Chalice Dragon, and then additional Normal Summon World Chalice. Also, if a linked Link Monster you control would be destroyed by battle, you can banish it from GY instead, which is something. 1 Triple Tactics Talent and 1 Called by the Grave. 3 The Fallen & The Virtuous. It sends a monster that mentions Fallen of Albaz from Extra Deck to GY to target a face-up card on field to destroy. I originally was not playing this card since the Extra Deck is a bit tight to play Albion the Branded Dragon and The Dragon that Devours the Dogma, but after looking at the Deck’s endboard, it needed some cards that provide more generic forms of removal like popping a card on the field the way that The Fallen & The Virtuous does. 2 Radiant Typhoon Chant and 1 Radiant Typhoon Ascendance. Both, if destroyed by the effect of Mystical Space Typhoon, can be set from GY, which isn’t something you are going to be doing in this Deck. Chant either adds a Level 3 or lower Radiant Typhoon monster from Deck to hand or an MST from Deck or GY to hand. You could play 3 if you wanted to, but 2 copies of Chant is more than enough since we are already playing 3 copies of Radiant Typhoon Eldam and 2 Radiant Typhoon Swen. Ascendance either Special Summons a Level 6 or lower Radiant Typhoon monster from GY or adds an MST from Deck or GY to hand. If you open Eldam, once you get to Swen, you can search for Ascendance instead of Chant with Swen’s effect, giving you a card that can be either used as extension or follow-up. 3 Forbidden Crown, which is a really juiced-up version of Forbidden Chalice to say the least. It’s a great card both for going first and going second. Notably, it can be used on any monster on the field, including your own. Why am I mentioning this? Because Forbidden Crown can make a monster unaffected by activated card effects and unable to be destroyed by battle or card effects, it can possibly prevent you from being OTK’ed if you use it on a Defense Position monster or a high ATK monster. The monsters that this Deck ends on do not have a lot of ATK unless you use I:P’s effect to make Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax, so having a way to prevent yourself from being OTK’ed is somewhat useful. Lastly, we have World Legacy’s Secret. We aren’t playing actual Mekk-Knights, so the only effect we are using is its effect on activation, which is basically Call of the Haunted for Level 5 or higher monsters. This is being used to bring back World Legacy - “World Chalice” to use its effect again. Could this have been something else? The only other playable World Legacy Traps we could use instead are World Legacy Awakens, which performs a Link Summon, World Legacy Landmark, which banishes a World Legacy monster from hand or face-up field to target and Special Summon 2 monsters from your GY, World Legacy Bestowal, which sends a Link Monster your opponent controls to the GY, and World Legacy’s Sorrow, which negates the activation of your opponent’s Spell/Trap Card or monster effect while you control a co-linked monster(s) and destroys that card. It’s up to you which you want to play, but I like Secret the best, and for my argument against Sorrow, your endboard has no co-linked monsters. You’d have to make S:P Little Knight instead of I:P Masquerena for Sorrow to be live, so it’s up to you.
Extra Deck: 1 Albion the Branded Dragon and 1 The Dragon that Devours the Dogma as our send off of The Fallen & The Virtuous. Albion sets a Branded Spell/Trap during the End Phase of the turn it was sent to the GY. The Dragon that Devours the Dogma adds a Dogmatika or Tri-Brigade card from Deck to hand during the End Phase of the turn it was sent to the GY. The Dogmatika card in question is The Fallen & The Virtuous, which is always treated as a Dogmatika card. 1 Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. For her Synchro Summon, a World Chalice Normal Monster can be treated as a Tuner, which is very welcome in an archetype with no Tuners (and I am not counting Guardragon Justicia). On Synchro Summon, Ib searches for a World Legacy card from Deck, which can be any of the World Legacy Spell/Traps that we are playing, realistically. It doesn't matter which World Legacy card you search with Ib and which you set with Lib. If Ib is Synchro Summoned and sent to the GY, you can Special Summon a World Chalice monster from Deck or GY except for herself. Again, this can be any World Chalice monster, but usually, you’d want it to be World Legacy - “World Chalice” to put the first copy of it on your field. 1 Number 75: Bamboozling Gossip Shadow, which is a Rank 3 that can Quick Effect detach 2 materials from itself when your opponent’s monster activates its effect to change that effect to “each player draws 1 card”. Gossip Shadow is a monster you can make with your Radiant Typhoon monsters in the scenario that you have another way to do your combo, like if you also opened Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight. Gossip Shadow would then have the chance to fade a monster handtrap, and if it doesn’t, it is another piece of interaction on your board. 1 Enlilgirsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight. It is a LINK-4 that requires 2+ monsters including an Orcust Link Monster. It can target and add a banished Orcust or World Legacy card to hand and then shuffle a card from your hand into Deck and take control of a face-up monster your opponent controls. Also, if it is in the GY during the Main Phase of the turn it was sent from the EMZ to there, you can banish it to send a card on field to the GY. Enlilgirsu is a good card to make as follow-up if you are able to bring back Galatea-I as it is really good removal. 1 Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax. This is just a big Link Monster that we could go into with I:P Masquerena to have a large monster that is difficult to remove in situations where making S:P Little Knight or Sky Striker Ace - Azalea with I:P isn’t worth it. 1 Lahamu the Messenger of Sacred Scripture, as mentioned before. 1 Lib the World Key Blademaster which can only be Link Summoned while there is a World Legacy card in your GY. During your Main Phase, she can set a World Legacy Spell/Trap from Deck, but it cannot be actuated this turn if there isn’t a World Legacy monster in GY. Also, if she is Link Summoned and sent to GY as Link Material, she can shuffle a card on field into the Deck. 1 Sky Striker Ace - Azalea which is a LINK-2 requiring 2 LIGHT and/or DARK monsters, and on Special Summon, you can target 1 card on the field and destroy it, but if you have 3 or less Spells in GY, Azalea is sent to GY. 1 S:P Little Knight and 1 I:P Masquerena. 2 Imduk the World Chalice Dragon, which is a LINK-1 that requires a Normal Monster as material except for a Token. During your Main Phase, it gives an additional Normal Summon of a World Chalice monster and if it is sent from field to GY, it floats into a World Chalice monster from hand. 1 Galatea-I, the Orcust Automaton, which can send a card from hand to GY to add a World Legacy monster or an Orcustrated Babel from Deck or GY to hand. And if she is in your GY, you can banish a different Orcust card from GY to Special Summon her from GY. Also, 1 Salamangreat Almiraj, which we use to Link-off World Chalice if we used Girsu as our starter.
Side Deck: 3 Nibiru, the Primal Being, which is really good going second because this Deck doesn’t have anything in-engine that can break a board. 3 Hecahands Godos, which you can Special Summon from your hand if a card(s) is added to your opponent’s hand, except during the Draw Phase or Damage Step, and during your opponent’s Main Phase, it can Quick Effect target and Special Summon a monster from your opponent’s GY to your field, banishing it when it leaves the field. Godos is a newer card, but it can be used as a handtrap that interacts with your opponent’s monsters in their GY. We are using it because, not only is it a handtrap, but it also translates to 2 monsters on your field, which can be used as Link Material to make Lahamu on your turn. Unless your opponent has something to remove both Godos and the monster it steals, you will still have a monster on your field at the start of your turn to use as Link Material for Lahamu. 3 Mulcharmy Fuwalos and 1 Mulcharmy Purulia. Drawing handtraps with Mulcharmies is always nice, but you do have to be a bit more reserved in this Deck since, while there aren’t any hard bricks in the Deck, there are plenty of soft bricks (i.e. most of the World Chalice monsters that aren’t Chalice itself). 1 Harpie’s Feather Duster. 1 Mystical Space Typhoon to go with our Radiant Typhoon cards if necessary. 3 Solemn Report. This is just better Solemn Judgment in my opinion. Like, my personal reasoning for playing Judgment in my Decks was to Judgment boardbreakers and literally any Dracotail Spell. Limit Judgment and then give me Solemn Report, I feel as if nothing has changed.
