Yu-Gi-Oh! In-Depth KOG Deck Guide Masked HEROs

Just like in the real life Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, Masked HEROs remain a threat and a nuisance. Not only are they cool, but they are incredibly consistent which might spark some of your interests revolving around this deck. By being able to dodge dangerous trap cards through fizzling out the effects through Mask Change, Masked HEROs become fantastic at smacking your opponent continuously.

Firstly, credits to u/mfabasicaf for the Deck List. u/mfabasicaf has reached King Of Games with this deck list and had shared it on Reddit for everyone to see. In this article, I’ll be going through an in-depth guide following the explanations for each card. So without further ado, let us begin.

To kick start our guide, let us begin by choosing which skill to take. u/mfabasicaf chooses “Restart” as his choice of skill because his chances of drawing Masked Change in his opening hand becomes higher. From this, we can start to see the direction in which the deck is headed. This leads me to think that, Mask Change is a crucial card in the deck’s engine which makes “Restart” a smart option to take. Buffing our Masked HEROs do not seem to be ideal or speed up our win condition. Hence, make sure you can accompany your deck with “Restart”.

In the Excerpt, I talked about fizzling out effects through the use of Mask Change. Since Mask Change is a quick-play spell card, it can be chained and will resolve first(if it is the last card played). For this reason, you can see how Masked HERO Anki becomes a threat as he becomes able to dodge cards like Floodgate Trap Hole. Not only that but his ability to attack directly can certainly catch your opponent off his guard.

Unfortunately, Elemental Hero Shadow Mist is not in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links but the deck can operate just fine! What’s also great about Masked HEROs is that your defensive spells are versatile. Adaptable and customizable, they allow you change for future formats to come. All in all, one of the funnest decks I’ve ever played with a huge amount of satisfying KOs. Each HERO card is important and through extensive play-testing, decidedly one of the best decks currently.

Destiny HERO – Decider

An amazing card that can stall for turns. Not only that, Destiny HERO – Decider does his job as a recycler. He grabs your previous resources that have been used and can also help counter burn decks. The biggest flaw of this card, is the fact that he can only use each effect once per duel. For that reason, you’ll have to use his effect carefully and intelligently. Destiny HERO – Decider is also a Mask Change target which makes him a core card to take. Running two is fine as running more becomes bricky and inconsistent. Keep in mind that since his effect can only be used once per duel, you end up using him for stalling turns.

Destiny HERO – Celestial

The Fluffal Wings for Masked HEROs. By being able to rid annoying face-up spell cards AND deck thin, makes Destiny HERO – Celestial a must-have. By itself, Destiny HERO – Celestial makes the deck incredibly consistent along with being a target for Mask Change. Running three becomes crucial because Destiny HERO – Celestial is just too good. Note that the draw effect has to be used the turn after it was sent to the graveyard.

Vision HERO Vyon

A deck thinner which also sets up your graveyard resources. Vision HERO Vyon also searches polymerization which is amazing because it’ll lead you into Destiny HERO – Dangerous. A three-of because Vision HERO Vyon does his job too well. Not only that but when things go south, Vyon is a potential Mask Change target which can swoop the game into your favor. Summoning Masked HERO Anki through protecting Vyon also nets a Mask Change card. From this, you can start to see where I’m coming from here. Dodging an effect by fizzling it out with Mask Change opens up an unexpected win condition that only Masked HEROs can provide.

Destiny HERO – Dreamer

A protector. Like /u/mfabasicaf had said, Destiny HERO – Dreamer can be cut. He simply protects and if you need to side out cards in a tournament, I would choose Destiny Hero – Dreamer. What’s unique about Destiny Hero – Dreamer, is how well it syngerizes with the deck. Unlike Sphere Kuriboh, the effect does not protect our monster but disables our opponents. Destiny HERO – Dreamer is also a Mask Change target so keep that in mind.

Cosmic Cyclone

A great removal spell. Honestly, there’s really not much to say. Cosmic Cyclone is a quick-play which works well together with Mask Change. By banishing a spell card, it completely negates any potential graveyard effects along with being easy to use. The cost isn’t something to be afraid of and helps when facing burn decks. You can run up to three but mfabasicaf opted for one.

Mask Change

The best card in the deck, undoubtedly. It targets your HEROs and can be used during the battle phase. This means you can fizzle out dangerous effects like Floodgate Trap Hole by chaining Mask Change to it! Not only do you waste your opponents defense but you also summon Masked HERO Anki. Leading closer to our win condition, Masked HERO Anki sets up the board by being able to swap out once again for another 2800 attack. At this point, if you have another Mask Change, you can summon another Masked HERO Anki using his effect to attack directly. Therefore, running three of these is a must.

Hey, Trunade!

Hey, Trunade! opens up OTK possibilities. By clearing up your opponents entire board, you leave your enemy completely vulnerable to Masked HERO Anki’s barrage. In many cases, players might cut this card for Anti-Magic Arrows. Unfortunately, Anti-Magic Arrows cannot be an option as it disables Mask Change. For that reason, Hey,Trunade! is perfect for its use and does its job quite nicely.

Vision HERO Vyon searches this card and it leads to our Destiny HERO – Dangerous. He helps thin our deck and can also become a big beater. Fusion summoning using Polymerization will be unlikely since you’ll be using Mask Change most of the time. As a consequence, it is why we only run one.

Forbidden Chalice

Forbidden Chalice helps stop Sylvans which is currently stomping the format. Aside from negating disgusting effects from your opponents monsters, it can also buff our Masked HERO Anki to 3200 attack. Other than that, Forbidden Chalice is a defensive card that you can cut if you feel the need to.

Enemy Controller

One of the most versatile cards in the format. By being able to adapt accordingly to each situation, enemy controller is an amazing staple to be put in the deck. It defends us from Cyber Angels and can even help Anki end the game easier. You can run up to three but  u/mfabasicaf runs one.

Extra Deck

Masked HERO Anki

A God card. Literally. Masked HERO Anki is so good and one of the many reasons why HEROs can still exist in the real life TCG. Masked HERO Anki can attack directly if your opponents weak or he can set up an OTK by adding more Mask Changes to hand. In my opinion, you should run three Masked HERO Anki’s which can lead to the deck getting quite expensive. But if you are going for King Of Games, you’ll need all the resources you need.

Vision HERO Trinity

The most satisfying card to pull a win off. By literally smashing your opponents face in with 5000 atk three times, he certainly catches your opponent off guard. But since he needs three HEROs to be summoned, Vision HERO Trinity becomes incredibly hard to summon. For this reason, Vision HERO Trinity is run at one.

Destiny HERO – Dangerous

An incredible deck thinner that isn’t too hard to summon. He also comes with an effect that makes him a high attack beater. Other than that, there really is not much too say about Destiny HERO -Dangerous.

Image result for masked hero ankiMain Objective

The Main Objective of this deck is too swap out using Mask Change and overwhelming your opponent by doing so. It’s one of the winning conditions but will most likely be how you take each duel. Keep in mind that setting up your graveyard resources takes intelligent decision making along with being able to stall hard enough. Stalling hard until you can wipe out your opponent in one go seems ideal for this deck.

In terms of consistency, Masked HEROs are incredible. Every monster in the deck is a target for Masked HERO Anki to swap out into. You also have monsters that can stall and search whatever resources are needed at the moment. Making the deck incredibly versatile and customizable. For defense, we use Forbidden Chalice and Enemy Controller for disruption. Coupling our win condition, we can disable our opponents back row by using Hey, Trunade!

The deck fails to grind out long games. Mask Change is not recyclable and needs to be used intelligently. If your opponent manages to survive the relentless barrage of Mask Change, you will have no more resources to win the game with. Or, if you are careless with Mask Change and they disable it, you can really be crippled for the rest of the duel. Momentum is key and Mask Change allows it to move forward.

Final Thoughts

I have this deck in real life and in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. I was incredibly hyped for the release of Masked HEROs so it’s great to see them in action. For this reason, Masked HEROs have always been fun to play since you can sweep your opponent in one go. Not only that but once in a blue moon, you’ll be able to destroy your opponent with Vision HERO Trinity. Being incredibly satisfying, a 5000 attack monster that can attack each monster your opponent controls is just unfathomable.

But yeah, the Vision HERO Trinity win condition is incredibly unlikely. Most games will be won with Masked HERO Anki and the Destiny HERO engine couples it fantastically. Knowing what cards can come or be released in the future, makes Masked HERO a safe investment for Duel Links players. Its consistency is incredibly underestimated and anyone that faces this deck should watch out.
