How does the Cards similar to function work?

From what I gather, the Cards similar to function works by matching letters and symbols so a card with the same word in the name will show up, then it checks the card text for matching words. Despite this, I noticed a number of cards similar to that did not follow this rule. For example, Equation System Cannon will pull Mutually Affured Destruction, a card with very few matching words and characters. So my question is, how does this system work?
