Paleo (GENESYS)

Engines

• In a void, Paleo can go one of four ways:
• Swap Frog, Ronintoadin and co (completely out of reach due to these two swallowing 93 points alone with just single copies). -
• Absolute King Back Jack and Fiend Griefing (both cards are outdated and underpowered - especially as Back Jack has no utility without Links)
• Soldier Dragons and Laundry Dragonmaid (I tested this, but it's slow and inconsistent. Just Laundry might have a place if we had Gigantic Spright - which is 20 points, or Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres - which is a link/banned)
• Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, Primite Drillbeam, Primite Howl, Guardragon Justicia - and the Primite Lordly Lode, if you decide to commit the whopping 33 points. The Primite engine feels the best given its utility in actually having a useful summon, added consistency, premium interaction, and overall synergy. That said, it is 33 points, but I think it's worth it given just how much that card can do.

Monsters

• Beyond the Primite stuff, the only other thing that's needed is Magicolloidal Sol. I initially had two as it's not searchable without Gigantic Spright, and it's almost pivotal to have in rotation, but drawing it sucks and the second one is always redundant. You can also play a singular copy of Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter, but I've not found the need. I've found that by inlcuding the Sol you can run a very tight Paleo count.

Spells

• Traptantalizing Tune is sensational to smooth out hands with Transaction Rollback and Elemental Burst, or just dump Paleos of course.

Traps

• As the Primite Lordly Lode is in, we can only afford two each of Trap Holic. While having a third would be nice, I think Lode is just that good.
• Given point adjustments, Trap Trick and Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon can now both be at three - and are central to the deck.
• Needlebug Nest at 3 is pretty much staple in Paleo - and for good reason given the obscene value it generates.
• Okiku's Dish Count is functionally the same as Needlebug Nest but more.
• I've found that you can replace Rise to Full Height and Threatening Roar with Primite Howl, which also sets up the Primite engine.

Main Deck - What isn't here

• Mirage of Nightmare was a staple in my main for so long, but I believe Okiku's Dish Count is better, more reliable, and better going first and second. That said, Mirage is a great card with a lot of neat interactions. you can turn "off" Mirage with Paleozoic Olenoides, Dracotail Flame (a card that I also cut, alongwith Horn), Trap Holic, or Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder, and you can also just slam the Paleos before you discard if you have Paleozoic Opabinia up, and/or just let it cycle indefinitely.
• Obviously there's some serious concessions to running even a single copy of Primite Lordly Lode. Without this, we could easily max out our copies of Trap Holic, fit in a Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis, Toadally Awesome and some other nice to have options. However, none of these are anywhere as close to as impactful as Lode is.
• Time-Tearing Morganite is always a gamble of "can I see it early enough, play down a card, and have the game last long enough for it to pay off". While seeing it turn one coupled with some premium interaction happens, I don't think it can be justified.
• I was tossing up between Balance of Judgment or Hope for Escape for some time. Without Links, and fields just setting less spells and traps, Balance of Judgment hasn't been as strong as often. However, both cards felt have just felt like I was playing a card down most of the time. I've ended up cutting both for the moment as I just haven't found myself actually using them. I'm willing to revisit as they're sensational when you're behind, and if you're winning you can comfortably play a card down.
• Dracotail Flame and Dracotail Horn - even prior to the points -  are just so low impact compared to Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon there's just no point.
• There's a further list a mile long of cards that I feel are either outclassed (eg Lost Wind) or uneccessary (eg Small Scuffle) that could be added, but I don't see myself playing for one reason or another.

Extra Deck - XYZs

• Paleozoic Opabinia is too obvious as the card that's made the most, by far.
• Paleozoic Anomalocaris is just a 0-point Zoodiac Drident. There is strong merit to running a second, but more often than not the first one gets the job done.
• Raidraptor - Rising Rebellion Falcon is strictly for Waking the Dragon as there's a surprising amount of decks that literally just auto-lose to this.
• Number 2: Ninja Shadow Mosquito and Dragon Gate is for the OTK.
• Downerd Magician and Epurrely Plump are material stacks, generally for Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder and Dragon Gate respectively.
• Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder. There's not really much to say about him outside of it's absolutely worth the 20 points. Don't start building this deck without him.

Extra Deck - Synchros

Note that the level 6's are really just for getting Beryl off the board to summon him again.

• Hyper Psychic Riser is the best thing to go into with turn one Beryl and Guardragon. A really nice lockout card that can ideally stall the game for as long as possible until you have a mass amount of cards in hand, field, and grave.
• Silvera, Wolf Tamer of the White Forest is a really nice card, not just for the damage. The best use is being able to use it with Magicolloidal Sol in the battle phase as another Waboku/battle phase skip.
• Gold Pride - Star Leon is notably equal attack to Hyper Psychic Riser (before the boost) so you can do the effect and attack.

Extra Deck - What isn't here

• Toadally Awesome is a good card, but it's not really "that" good. Even in advanced I don't find myself reaching for it that often.
• The old Daigusto Phoenix and Cat Shark combo can faciliate OTKs, but this is all null and void thanks to Dragon Gate.
• Gigantic Spright and Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis are worth mentioning, however they both just aren't worth it due to their assosciated points. I would really like TY-PHON.
• Poplar of the White Forest is really, really bad I:P Masquerena, and is just used to sync with the opponent's monster when coupled with a Primite Howl. It's too clunky to make though as it's often at the cost of banishing a Paleo, and it's not like you can do IP into SP or even close to similar.
• Of note, Armory Arm can faciliate some disgusting OTKs with Dragon Gate, though also doesn't seem to come up enough.

Side Deck

• Kaijus feel necessary in this format as there's not as many of the tools you have in advanced to go second - plus a lot of crazy boards you need to just out.
• Similarly, Lord lets you play going second.
• On Waking the Dragon, it's important to note that getting Paleozoic Opabinia has some use cases when you're still holding paleos in hand, but Raidraptor - Rising Rebellion Falcon is really just that guy more often than not. Similarly, grabbing the Synchros can also have merit. It's comically easy to have access to this card too if they have sweeper as Trap Holic and Trap Trick serve as 5 more copies.
• Weighbridge  is bad Evenly Matched.
• Heavy Storm Duster is partly for the spare slots, but also partly against random backrow decks I don't want to get blown out by.

Side Deck - What isn't here

• Dracotail Sting or Ice Dragon's Prison is a nice option for grave interaction.
• Titanocider is also "decent", but I don't find it to be impactful enough.
