Genesys deck for a budget friendly Dark Magician archetype.
While the low budget restricts access to most of the best DM cards, this is still a playable (albeit non-competetive) deck. Great for casual matches, especially with newer players with how simple the combos are.
There are multiple combo lines, providing some flexibility depending on what starters you have and endstates you want. The main drawback is the limited protection, though there is some. The deck primarily relies on fusion summons, with some XYZ summons to provide extra support. One of the interesting things about this deck is how nonlinear many of the combos are, while the combos themselves are fairly short and simple. Depending on the state of the fields, zones, hand, and deck, what line of summons and fusions can change wildly.
The basic goal of the deck is to fusion summon "Timaeus the United Magical Dragon". It provides great self-protection, can quickly run over most other monsters, and has built-in removal. An alternative win condition includes getting your opponent to <5000 LP and then fusion summoning 2 DMs into "The Great Double Casted Caster" for a powerful, unblockable direct attack.
"Magicians' Souls" (MS) is a great starter, allowing you to send a "Dark Magician" (DM) or "Dark Magician Girl" (DMG) from deck to grave. MS works really well with the "Sinful Spoils of the White Forest" (SSWF) and "Susurrus of the Sinful Spoils) (SSS), which can then set themselves after being sent to the grave to activate MS's effect. To get either SSWF or SSS, "Diabellstar the Black Witch" (DBW) is the perfect card, just requiring you to send any 1 card from hand or field to grave (which notably does not proc SSWF/SSS). At this point, you will have MS and DBW on the field with at least SSWF/SSS. If you do not have DM/DMG in hand, you may want to setup SSS to special summon the DM/DMG from grave to field. Ideally, you would have "Secrets of Dark Magic" (SDM) or SSWF (by some other means) to fusion summon out "Timaeus the United Magical Dragon" (TUMD) using DM/DMG + DBW. Using DBW for the fusion summon then let's you discard a card to special summon her back to the field, setting another Sinful Spoils card from the deck.
Other simpler combos include using "Allure of Darkness" to draw 2 cards (banishing a dark spellcaster for cost), and then using SSS to special summon the banished dark spellcaster. Using "Dark Renewal" to special summon DBW, DM, or DMG from deck to help setup a TUMD fusion, which works especially well if "Magician's Salvation" is on the field since you can use a DM or DMG for the cost of Dark Renewal, special summon the other from deck, which then resurrects the one sacrificed for cost.
Points Usage:
- "Magicians' Souls" x3 (15 pts ea) - Core DM starter/hand filtering.
- "Allure of Darkness" x3 (5 pts ea) - Powerful card draw. A decent number of effects in this deck require discarding a card, so this helps to sustain those costs. Some other synergestic alternatives include:
- "Preparation of Rites" x3 (15 pts) - Tutoring for the "Illusion of Chaos", which let's you find nearly any other card in the deck.
- "Book of Moon" x2 (14 pts) (plus 1 other card) - Control and alternative card draw (via "Magicians' Souls").
- "Diabellstar the Black Witch" x2 (20 pts ea) - An easy level 7 spellcaster body for fusion/xyz summons, but also tutoring a "Sinful Spoils" card:
- "Sinful Spoils of the White Forest" - Spellcaster special summon (useful for the "Magician of Dark Illusion") or fusion effect if unable to get a "Secrets of Dark Magic".
- "Susurrus of the Sinful Spoils" - Great for bouncing (an illusion/spellcaster monster you control), but also recursing. This works well with cards like "Allure of Darkness" or even a "Gold Sarcophagus".
- Synergizes with "Sinful Spoils of Doom - Rciela", breaking the opponent's board on your turn with the effect to sacc/ressurect Diabellstar on your opponent's turn.
