Hello, welcome!
I know I said that I'd do a spright deck, however that's taking alot longer than expected because of... stuff (mainly me experimenting with combos). Instead, I'm going to do this umi deck. This isn't really a combo-style deck so this is -probably- going to be shorter, and different, than others.
"Umi" is a card that was was released on the 8th of march 2002 it's a field spell that has the following effect: Aqua monsters on the field gain 200 ATK/DEF, also all Machine and Pyro monsters on the field lose 200 ATK/DEF... it's very bad, but during the years of 2002 - 2010 umi got a moderate amount of support from the meh Torpedo Fish to the psudo zeus that is Levia-Dragon - Daedalus, however in 2021 - 2022 we got support that made "umi" a cohesive stratagy... and it's a control deck. Since this is a control deck this guide is going to be formated differently, I'll explain all the cards and some synergies that make them work so well together. This deck can definately top a locals and maybe a regonals because no one is really prepared to see this, however one downside is that it isn't very good againt removal that can: tribute, destroy (though some cards have foating effects), banish ALL of those can clear the board so be careful. If your opponent figures out which cards to take out first (Electric Jellyfish) they can ruin this deck.
First of all is Adularia of the June Moon with Marincess Coral Anemone.
These work together well because they both manage to get Barrier Statue of the Torrent out on the field if you control a face up card in your spel/trap zones you can (if Adularia of the June Moon is in your hand):
link 2 WATER monsters into Marincess Coral Anemone (this can be achieved by Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef) > activate Adularia of the June Moon in hand to special summon itself > use Adularia of the June Moon's effect to send Barrier Statue of the Torrent to the GY > activate Marincess Coral Anemone to special summon a WATER monster with less than 1500 ATK (Barrier Statue of the Torrent) to the field.
Barrier Statue of the Torrent floodgates the opponent so that they can only special summon WATER monsers, it's useful when your opponent has "outed"(removed) your main floodgate Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin.
Some of our direct umi support comes from Doom Kraken:
A level 4 WATER Aqua monster with the folloing effect:
If "umi" is on the field (Quick Effect): You can target 1 WATER monster you control, except "Doom Kraken", and 1 monster your opponent controls; Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, return that monster you control to the hand, and if you do that, destroy that opponent's monster. When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can return this card to the hand, and if you do, negate that attack. You can only use each effect of "Doom Kraken" once per turn.
It's a versatile card that can spring on the board with a bit of removal tacked on it, Doom Kraken can also stop attacks which is a pretty good effect. The targeted return has the ability to not olny doge attacks but to also remove unwated monsters on the field. Doom Kraken allows you to maintain field presence and protect key cards from destrucion.
Electric Jellyfish is a card that we use in the deck:
A level 4 WATER Aqua monster with the following effect:
You can send 1 "umi" from your hand, Deck, or face-up field to the GY; Special Summon 1 WATER monster from your hand. When your opponent activates a monster effect, or Spell Card or effect, while "umi" is on the field (Quick Effect): You can negate that effect, then, you can make this card gain 600 ATK/DEF. You can only use each effect of "Electric Jellyfish" once per turn.
Electric Jellyfish can help extend our plays by sending an "umi" from our field/deck to the GY we can summon a plethora of WATER monsters including -but not limited to- Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin, Mega Fortress Whale, Citadel Whale and even General Raiho of the Ice Barrier (a cool floodgate card that negates a card unless the discard cards). It also has an effect negation effect that can disrupt our opponent or respond to our opponents attempts to stop our plays, this also causes our Electric Jellyfish to gain 600 ATK/DEF which can also make a big wall that our opponent can't beat over. It's effects can be used for a small 2 card combo with Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin but we'll cover that later. Ovarall Electric Jellyfish can swarm the field with floodgates and create some defensive plays whilst controling the field.
Warrior of Atlantis:
A level 4 WATER Aqua monster withthe following effect:
You can discard this card to the Graveyard; add 1 "A Legendary Ocean" from your Deck to your hand.
I mean it's pretty self explainable - it searches the field spell. It can however be a material used for an xyz monster if you wish so.
On to the penultimate card - Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin:
A level 5 WATER Sea Serpent monster with the following effect:
While "umi" is on the field, each player can only control 1 face-up non-WATER monster. (If a player controls 2 or more, they must send some to the GY so they only control 1.) During your Main Phase: You can add from your Deck to your hand 1 "umi", 1 "Kairyu-Shin" Spell/Trap, or 1 "Sea Stealth" Spell/Trap. You can only use this effect of "Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin" once per turn.
This poweful floodgate restricts your opponent from cintroling more that 1 non-water monster (which being in a FIRE dominated format is great) it's also a self synergy because it dosn't affect the deck in any way. The search effect can also help build a tougher board by adding either Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef or Sea Stealth Attack to control and swarm the boards, Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin is the main boss monster for the deck and is the main way to stop your opponent.
A small combo to remember is Electric Jellyfish + Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin + Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef or Sea Stealth Attack with an "umi" on field
normal summon Electric Jellyfish > Electric Jellyfish effect send "umi" from deck to GY; special summon Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin > add either Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef or Sea Stealth Attack (whichever you don't have) > set both > end phase
opponent's turn: Sea Stealth Attack > ativate both Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef sending "umi" to the GY;
RESOLVE:
1. summon 2 WATER monsters from your deck that mention "umi" (e.g. Mega Fortress Whale and Doom Kraken)
2. re-acrivate "umi" from the GY
GLHF opponent.
The last monster today is Mega Fortress Whale:
A level 7 WATER Fish monster with the folloing effect:
If "umi" is on the field: You can activate this effect; your WATER monsters can attack directly this turn. During your opponent's Battle Phase (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; destroy it. If this card on the field is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can either add to your hand or Special Summon 1 WATER Warrior monster from your Deck or GY. You can only activate the effects of Mega Fortress Whale once per turn.
This is a great card. This can not only close out games, but is also free removal during the battle phase. IF (because it is an absolute whale of a monster) it's destroyed it's destruction effect can special summon 1 WATER Warrior monster from the deck, and here we play General Raiho of the Ice Barrier yet another floodgate, it prevents your opponent from activating card effects unless they discard a card (I don't need to tell you why that's good though).
The spells and traps allow us to further control what happens on the board whilst searching monsters for further consistancy, this makes the deck a joy to play as alot of these cards search and you have access to basically the entire deck, the main ones are:
- Fish Sonar
- Foolish Burial Goods & Ice Barrier
- Kairyu-Shin's Dark Reef
These all search monsters in one way or another - Ice Barrier is also some interuption if you draw into it -
The important spells/traps (that don't search) are:
- umi obviously
- Sea Stealth II
- Sea Stealth Attack
These cards allow you to doge effects keeping monsters on the field whilst steadly increacing the pressure on our opponent using Sea Stealth II summoning a monster evry turn.
The extra deck can be anything as we don't really need it I've chosen hese cards as
Anyway that is all for this deck, overall is a very, very good deck that can setup multiple floodgates and negations as well as some destrucion/removal so we don't really need to play hand traps like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring or Nibiru, the Primal Being but if you want to, you can. This deck is fun, fast paced for a control deck and can close out games quite quickly.
Thats all you need to know REMEMBER this isn't the best or only way to play umi so change the deck as you wish and as allways stay safe and have fun (: !

Let me know if you like some of the format changes and I'll continue to add them in the future.
