Ahh, Traptrix... The wonderful control deck about falling into holes
...and probably breaking a few bones on the way down.
Hello, welcome!
Traptrix was and still is a very decent deck. It mainly focuses on some midrange rank 4s and trap hole cards, which punish your opponenet for summoning in any way. Even though they're quite powerfull I don't think they're going to top any regionals or YCS's any time soon however it's still a very fun deck to play as a rouge pick also it's quite cheap too if you buy 3 structure decks, great for any beginners looking to get a cheap but competative deck.
Ratios I keep the same are:
- 3 Traptrix Myrmeleo
- 3 Traptrix Mantis
- 2 or 3Traptrix Arachnocampa
- 2 Traptrix Dionaea
- 1 or 2 Traptrip Garden
- 3 Traptrix Holeutea
Extra Deck:
- 1 Traptrix Pinguicula
- 3 Traptrix Sera
- 2 or 3 Traptrix Rafflesia
These cards facilitate the ability to combo into our end boardwhich usually contains some trap hole cards and both rank 4s. The extra deck monsters do different things from making the deck work (Traptrix Sera) to searching monsters and proccing our trap hole cards directly from the deck. I've mentioned the trap hole cards a couple of times now so lets go over those, we play:
- 2 Floodgate Trap Hole
- 2 Gravedigger's Trap Hole
- up to 2 Terrifying Trap Hole Nightmare
- up to 2 Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare
This is the smallest amount we can play without running out of trap hole cards, however if you want to play more trap cards some more good ones are:
- Bottomless Trap Hole
- Network Trap Hole
- Void Trap Hole
These do work but only play one of each if you decide to play them otherwise the deck turns quite bricky.
Some combos using these cards are:
Traptrix Myrmeleo + a normal trap card
Normal summon Traptrix Myrmeleo > Traptrix Myrmeleo's effect on summon, add Traptrix Holeutea > link summon Traptrix Sera using Traptrix Myrmeleo > set Traptrix Holeutea > activate Traptrix Holeutea discard a normal trap card to the GY; special summon it > trigger Traptrix Sera effect, special summon Traptrix Dionaea > Traptrix Dionaea effect on special summon, set the discarded trap > trigger Traptrix Sera effect, seting any trap hole card...
There are two ways you can go from here depending on what you have in hand, either:
- overlay Traptrix Holeutea and Traptrix Dionaea xyz summoning a Traptrix Pinguicula > detatching Traptrix Holeutea; a adding a Traptrix Arachnocampa to your hand > special summon Traptrix Arachnocampa using it's own effect
What this does is it protects any backrow cards you set (due to Traptrix Arachnocampa's effect) whilst getting the Traptrix Holeutea into the grave to special summon a Traptrix monster for any disruption (e.g a Traptrix Pudica to banish an opponent's monster). Use this when you have alot of trap hole cards that you can set.
Or
- overlay Traptrix Holeutea and Traptrix Dionaea xyz summoning a Traptrix Rafflesia
Traptrix Rafflesia allows you to proc trap hole cards in your deck, using them as if they were set. Use this of you only have one or less trap hole cards set.
Traptrix Mantis + a normal trap card
Normal summon Traptrix Mantis > Traptrix Mantis' effect on summon, add Traptrix Arachnocampa > link summon Traptrix Sera using Traptrix Mantis > special summon Traptrix Arachnocampa using it's own effect > trigger Traptrix Sera effect, setting Traptrix Holeutea > activate Traptrix Holeutea discard a normal trap; special summon it > trigger Traptrix Sera effect, summoning a Traptrix Dionaea > Traptrix Dionaea effect on special summon, set the discarded trap > overlay Traptrix Dionaea and Traptrix Holeutea xyz summoning Traptrix Rafflesia
This ends on the same board as before but with a Traptrix Arachnocampa, this means any backrow is protected as well as any trap hole card in our deck.
Traptrix Pudica + any other traptrix that has a normal summon effect (Il'l just use Traptrix Mantis)
Normal summon Traptrix Pudica > Traptrix Pudica effect on normal summon, add Traptrip Garden > activate Traptrip Garden > link summon Traptrix Sera using Traptrix Pudica > use Traptrip Garden's effect to normal summon the other traptrix card > trigger Traptrix Sera effect, setting Traptrix Holeutea > activate Traptrix Holeutea discard a normal trap ; special summon it > trigger Traptrix Sera effect, summoning a Traptrix Dionaea > Traptrix Dionaea effect on special summon, set the discarded trap > overlay Traptrix Dionaea and Traptrix Holeutea xyz summoning Traptrix Pinguicula > Traptrix Pinguicula effect detatching Traptrix Holeutea; a adding a Traptrix Arachnocampa to your hand > special summon Traptrix Arachnocampa using it's own effect > overlay the other normal summoned monster and Traptrix Rafflesia.
This block of text basically ends you on a Traptrix Rafflesia, Traptrix Pinguicula and Traptrix Sera + any trap hole cards you set.
This isn't long enough...
Extra Deck:
- Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir = floodgate
- Time Thief Redoer = grind game helper
- Baromet the Sacred Sheep Shrub = trap recycling + draw power + a special summon when a trap is activated
- Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder = removal / board wipe
That's evrything you need to know... the guide would be longer if I put another archetype in, but i didn't.
Anyway, I saw appliancer and thought what if I sunk 12 hours of my life into learning it and shoving different archetypes into it...
See you there, stay safe, goodbye!
