I want to start today's deck overview with wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I wish all of you a great 2020 - and remember to keep on being the awesome duelists you all are. Anyways - I'd like to start 2020 with this cheap and
quite rogue deck build I made a while back. It focus' on continuously manipulating your opponents field by destroying cards they control. On first glance; this deck might seem cloggy and weak (with the only two monsters in it being
Dark Magician and
Magician's Rod) However, I assure you that using all the search and draw power in this deck - you open up with an ideal hand quite regularly. This deck requires you to only have two cards in hand for you to pull your combo off.
You usually end up only having
Dark Magician on field - as you use Rod as fodder for
Illusion Magic - which allows you to run a Phantasm Spiral 'engine'. The way
Pacifis, the Phantasm City works is, if you dont control any effect monsters - you can special summon one 'Pacifis Token' to your side of the field with 2000 ATK. Then, when you special that token, you're allowed to add a Phantasm trap to your hand. This give you extra disruption alongside
Dark Magical Circle meaning you can stack up ways to destroy your opponents cards - spell, trap or monster.
You can also overlay into
Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon using two of your magicians (If of course you haven't banished it off of
Pot of Extravagance). Then you can use a card like circle to pop your dragon - which will bring out
Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon from the extra.
To wrap it up; I have fallen in love with this deck. It's so interesting and different - and a good refresher from all these current format decks. The playstyle is different, the strategy is different. It strays away from the classic
Dark Magician decks, but in a unique and positive way. I'd give this deck a 8/10. Definitely not the strongest deck out there - but a very budget and very fun deck to play (for your opponent and you). Happy New Year everyone; hope 2020 brings you lots of joy and a whole lot of dueling.
