The game was apparently created after fans sent in ideas for a "Space Jam: A New Legacy" game, where Narayan from India and Ricky from the USA won. The developers behind it are Digital Eclipse, which made some games in the 90's and made itself known for releasing old games in new formats.

The premise of "Space Jam: A New Legacy - The Game" seems simply inspired by the movie where the playable characters LeBron James, Snurre Sprätt and Lola must fight The Goon Squad to get out of Warner Bros.'s servers and save the basketball star's kidnapped son.
