Guardragons (Trinity, September 2019)
Deck Primer
Description
Guardragons are known and feared throughout the TCG for their ability to spam dragon monsters on to the field to create unbreakable boards. Luckily, this is Trinity Format Yugioh, so we don't have to worry about that! Guardragons exist around 1 card here: Ib the World Chalice Justiciar. By summoning Ib with a normal dragon monster in the graveyard, all sorts of madness can occur!
Pros:
- Abuses the summon limit significantly more than most Trinity decks, often performing enough summons to make Nibiru, the Primal Being an impactful threat.
- Has possibly the strongest boards in Trinity, being very difficult to break while also threatening to OTK.
- Very nonlinear playstyle despite many linear combos, each hand has different possibilities, often spanning multiple turns.
- 56% chance of opening a starter
- The deck can flex into Chaos Dragon Levianeer very consistently, providing extra gas when necessary.
- Guardragons are cool cards when not being used to prevent opponents from playing Yugioh.
Cons:
- Dies to many handtraps without extra extenders, including, but not limited to, Ash, Ogre, Belle, Crow, Nibiru, Veiler, and Dimension Shifter, or to any disruption trap.
- Can often run out of gas, as some combos are very hand intensive.
- Playing 6 vanillas and tons of revival is bound to cause bricking, even if most of them aren't terrible in hand.
- Very little room for techs, as lots of extra space is needed to help fight backrow.
Combos
Primary Combo: Starting hand: 1 starter (Draconnet, Mathematician, Souleating Oviraptor, or searcher for any of these), and 1 card that puts a normal monster onto the field (Swing of Memories, World Legacy Succession, Painful Decision, Silver's Cry, etc.).
Normal summon the starter, summon Galaxy Serpent (if Mathematician, dump Carboneddon to summon it, if Oviraptor, use Carboneddon to summon Flamvell Guard).
Synchro into Ib in defense position, search World Legacy Guardragon, pass the turn.
Next turn, there are 2 routes to go down:
If Ib survives:
Activate WL Guardragon, summon back Galaxy Serpent, link into Lanphorhynchus, Ib summons World Chalice Guardragon.
Link Lanpho and WC Guardragon to summon Berserker of the Tenyi.
Banish WC Guardragon to summon back Galaxy Serpent, link into Guardragon Elpy.
Activate the "extender," summon back Galaxy Serpent.
Activate WL Guardragon move Elpy to point to Berserker's zone, Elpy effect to summon Wattaildragon.
Synchro for Borreload Savage Dragon, attach Lanpho (if you used Flamvell Guard, summon Michael or a level 7 dragon Synchro of your choice).
End Board: Berserker, Elpy, and Borrel Savage with 2 counters and 3600 attack (or a level 7 Synchro).
If Ib is destroyed but WC Guardragon survives
WL Guardragon summon Galaxy Serpent, link into Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres.
Banish WC Guardragon, summon Galaxy Serpent, link into Elpy.
Move Elpy, summon Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay.
End Board: Hieratic Seal which floats into Omni Dragon Brotaur to search Chaos Dragon Levianeer, Elpy, and Phantazmay.
These are not the only possible combos, however. For example, you can search out WL Guardragon by linking into Mekk-Knight of the Morning Star, or by banishing a World Chalice - "World Legacy" from your graveyard. Without extenders, you can still summon out big monsters like Berserker and Phantazmay, or set up for a devastating Levianeer next turn. Each hand has new possibilities to extend the board even further.
Future Support:
This deck has the potential to benefit from any new set, from getting new link monsters to extend combos and to finding more ways to go into Ib.
The deck also receives some support from CHIM, in the form of Galaxy Satellite Dragon and Striker Dragon. Galaxy Satellite Dragon is the reason I play White Rose Dragon, as it allows for summoning it to put WL Guardragon on the top of my deck for next turn. While weaker than other lines of play, it adds consistency to the combos above. Striker Dragon is the bigger inclusion, allowing the deck to play through disruption of WL Guardragon to summon a 3-mat Apoullousa, Bow of the Goddess, while also enabling an opening of 1 normal dragon and 2 Mekk-Knights to make Morning Star. I have also previously tested Bulge, the Spiral Dragon, but found that it took too much investment to create an inferior board (Triple Burst Dragon + 1 Rank 8), and Seyfert, the Starliege Dragon, who lacks a level 1 dragon monsters that summons itself at will, while also not having many targets for its grave effect.
Other Key Cards:
Spell/Trap Removal: Allows me to play the game.
Card of Safe Return: A true MVP, a regular combo will resurrect from the graveyard at least 3 times, netting massive card advantage.
Foolish Burial: Dumps Carboneddon, WC Guardragon, World Chalice - "World Legacy", normals, etc. What's not to love?
Carboneddon: Not only does it allow for the Oviraptor combo, but it also functions as a great card in a pinch, as it can summon Wattaildragon to make high-level Synchros, or the low level normals to make links.
Well, that's it for the deck. I will update this every time a new set comes out or I find something new. You can join the Trinity Discord Server here for the latest news and updates for Trinity!
