With M-X-Saber Invoker finally released from the purgatory of the ban list, the "black sheep" option from the Legendary Modern Decks once again has access to one of its best cards, giving it even greater access to the possibly the best piece of legacy support it could have ever asked for in X-Saber Pellina. The problem: outside of the other phenomenal legacy support card in X-Saber Bruno, the Deck lacks an easy or consistent way in archtype of getting two Level 3's on the field to make Invoker. Enter the Assault Mode cards, which like X-Sabers received some incredible support earlier this year but also failed to make any real impact on the game at large following the new cards' release. Despite this sad reality, the synergies between these two Synchro-centric archtypes is undeniable, and uninterupted, the Deck is able to produce end boards capable of dealing with pretty much anything your opponent might throw at you, including multiple Summon negates between Halberd Cannon, Axon Oracle, and Saber Hole; essentially infinite Spell negates from Naturia Beast, and pops/banishes off Psychic Blaster and Vengeance Dragan.
With that said, I'd like to highlight a few interesting techs that I've included that I think really help the Deck along.
- Scrap Warrior and Junk Signal
- Being easily accessible off a single activation of Duel Evolution-Assault Zone, Scrap Warrior provides the Deck a much need Level 3 body that doesn't take up the Normal Summon to make going into Invoker much easier. That alone would have made it an acceptable inclusion in the Deck, but the fact that it also searches Junk Signal, which can either give you access to additional body for synchro plays by tributing a spent Invoker, prevent your opponent from interupting your Synchro monsters' effects, or give your broad protection from destruction by Special Summoning back Stardust Dragon after it's been tributed for its Assault Mode counterpart, makes it more than worthy of its spot in the list.
- Small World
- This probably isn't too shocking, given that the card WAS included in the LMD, but I don't think I can stress enough just how well Small World works in this Deck. The fact that every monster in the list is some combination of Earth, Warrior, and/or Psychic without conflicting Levels or ATK/DEF stats means that basically everything in the list is searchable with just this one card.
- Serene Psychic Sorceress
- With fairly easy access to Level 6 Synchros, Serene Psychic Sorceress provides the Deck access to two powerful end board pieces in the form of Pyschic Blaster MK-II, ideally synching itself off with Bruno either on your turn or your opponent's with Bruno's effect, and Axon Kicker Oracle via Teleport Fusion.
Of course, as with every strategy, this Deck isn't without its issues.
- Droll & Lock Bird/Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring/Mulcharmy Fuwalos/Nibiru
- So...yeah. This Deck NEEDS to be able to search cards, whether it's Assault Mode Activate, Saber Combination, or Scrap Synchron, which mean Droll and Ash can kill your turn pretty quickly. Likewise, given how much the Deck needs to summon to get to its desired end board, an untimely drop of Fuwalos or Nibiru will likewise stop you in your tracks.
- Zone Placement
- Like most Synchro strategies, this Deck can have a real problem keeping enough zones open to continue synchroing, which can severely hamper your potential end board if not managed properly.
- Helpful Suggestion: ALWAYS summone Invoker and Sorceress into the Extra Monster Zone, or they will 100% clog your board mid-combo.
Despite these downsides, the Deck can be quite fun to play and can provide a decent test of your ingenuity and resource management.
Note: I fully recognize that this particular build lacks any going second tools or handtraps in the Main Deck and therefore can't be considered "competitive". I've included what'd probably be the best choices to include should you be looking to make this Deck "meta-viable". As to what you should cut, I'd say your best choices would be two Garsem, two Faultroll, one Gottom's Second Call, one Combination, one Psi-Reflector, and Darksoul for whatever combination you'd like in the Main and Crimson Blader and Juraishin in the Extra.
