After seeing so many Swordsoul decklists with the Tenyi engine, I became hyperfixated on finding a build that didn't rely on it. Thus, Unexpected Swordsoul was born.
Because of two Normal Monsters and Rev Synchron, running Unexpected Dai with some of the Level 4 Tenyi (couldn't quite escape it, lol) can actually work. Those two monsters are Mystery Shell Dragon, a Level 4 Wyrm, and Angel Trumpeter, a Level 4 Normal Tuner. These few monsters open up new plays for the deck, like going full combo w/o using your Normal Summon or potentially setting up Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon before using your Normal Summon. This greatly helps with what I feel is one of the decks worst counters, Nibiru.
There are also two Spell cards that help bolster the deck more: Gold Sarcophagus and Instant Fusion. Gold Sarc can banish Blackout from Deck to create a token to combo, making a Level 4 Tenyi+Gold Sarc and allows for a work-around if your Mo Ye or Taia gets negated. Instant Fusion has two targets, Magikey Beast - Ansyalabolas and Mudragon of the Swamp. Ansyala is a Level 4 Tuner and Mudragon is a Level 4 Wyrm, which goes off the same logic as Gold Sarc except Fusion monsters. However, what seperates Instant Fusion from Gold Sarc is a really cool interaction with Ecclesia. Fun fact: her last line of text reads "During the End Phase, if a Fusion Monster(s) was sent to your GY this turn: Add this card from the GY to your hand." This interaction makes any opening hand with Ecclesia and Instant Fusion one of the best starters because you don't have to risk getting Ash'd AND you can recycle her for follow-up next turn.
The deck ain't tier 1, shoot it might be a tier 2 or 3 version of the deck. I just find it more fun than the same builds and ratios of Swordsoul Tenyi that I see over and over again.
