He there! Welcome to my take on Unchained. Below I've laid out my deck list choices, I hope they inspire you in your take on the deck. Please leave a comment if you like my choices or have any suggestions for improvements :). Cheers from the Netherlands
I will discuss the following 3 bullet points:
- Why blind 2nd?
- Card choices
- Main combo/opening hands
- Final comment on outing Dragoon
Why blind 2nd?
I dont think there is much debate here. I have played going 1st and 2nd versions a lot. What ends up happening is that your line of play is pretty much the same either way, but in a going 2nd strategy you can use your opponents monsters as link material instead of ending on a mediocre board with 1 - 3 interruptions.
Card choices
- 3x all of the Unchained monsters. Pretty standard. Optionally you can play 2x Sarama, this decreases consistency and grind game but increases the ceiling of the deck.
- 2x Abominable and 1x Soul of disaster. Pretty standard too. I would love to play 2x Soul of disaster but its too much of a brick imo.
- 3x Ash blossom. Most generic hand trap in game.
- 3x gamma + driver. This hand trap is NUTS. Not just in general, but specifically in this deck. You play 3x Extrav, 3x Aruha and 3x Rota which all activate in your hand with no monsters on the field (get the hint already???). Also, you often end up with no monsters on the field due to ramming your monsters into your opponents with the goal of triggering their effects in battle phase (giving you an empty board).
- 2x DD Crow. This is really up to you and nr 1 card choice you can/should change. Its just that DD Crow is a personal favourite of mine, with banishing not just monsters and being a quick effect it really provides a unique game mechanic (e.g. hit Miscellaneousaurus from Dinos).
- 1x Pankratops. Hands down this card gets banned next banlist (works really well with evenly matched I must point out).
- 3x rota.
- 3x Extravagance.
- 1x Harpie feather duster.
- 2x Dark ruler no more. Amazing in this deck under the right circumstances. You could play 3 but I think its too much with 3x Extravagance.
- 3x of both Unchained traps.
- 3x Evenly matched. I can not express how much I love this card. Especially in Unchained too, since skipping battle phase does pretty much nothing (you will OTK in only 1/10 games, mostly you will do 3x 1500 + 300 damage anyway).
Card choices (extra deck)
- 3x Unchained link 2, 3
- 2x Unchained Abomination
- 2x Knightmare unicorn (going into unicorn on opponents turn is gold!)
- Topologic zeroboros and Bomber dragon are both nice options to keep the interruptions interactive on opps turn (bomber dragon for Salamangreat/Crusadia e.g., Zeroboros for any deck that can Soul charge/spam tokens)
- Framelord omega
- Pegasus @Ignister is INSANE against Dogmatika. The synergy with this deck is unreal
- Dingirsu for non targeting and non destructive removal. Be careful with the fiend lock in this deck ofc.
Card choices (side)
- DD Crow, as I said personal favourite.
- Artifact package. You can pop your own Scythe if you have too
- Cosmic cyclone and Heavy storm duster for instant win against backrow.
- Imperial order and Skill drain are free Ws. Especially skill drain is must for this deck, having all your Unchained monsters activate in GY.
- 3x Lancea because Dino matchup is really bad. Like really hah.
Main combo/opening hands
- As I said earlier, Gamma + 1 of (rota, Extrav, Aruha) is on itself full combo. Make sure to use the Gamma to go into Omega for the +1 ;).
- Dark ruler + any Unchained monster is full break a board. Activate Dark ruler, ram monster and bring either Abominable or Soul of disaster to the field and go on from there.
- Evenly matched. Activate evenly matched, if it resolves you win, if it doesnt, do the standard Aruha/Rakea + trap combo.
Final comment on outing dragoon
- Under the right circumstances, facing a Dragoon can be an instant scoop. Know how to deal with this card. Best is to go straight to battle phase, ram Unchained monster, and bring out Abominable to ram into the dragoon. If your monster eff in GY gets negated by dragoon that is actually pretty good, because it does not gain the +1k Atk stat. Also, activating Rakea on field instead of Aruha in hand is also encouraged if you must because Aruha does not trigger when destroyed from hand.
