The Weather - Post POTE
Deck Primer
The deck's main plan is to bring out The Weather Painter Rainbow to transform your The Weather Monsters into negates on legs, and use your Canvases to gain advantage over multiple turns, by using The Weather Snowy Canvas to search more cards, and the The Weather Rainbowed Canvas to get more Monsters into rotation. This deck can have a pretty good grind game, and its negates refill themselves each turn. Therefore, if you cannot out its board through its negates, it is quite possible you just won't be able to out it.
Your main starter and Normal Summon for the Deck is The Weather Painter Snow. Your ways to search it are mainly Small World or, in more niche cases, The Weather Forecast (to place The Weather Snowy Canvas) + a "The Weather" monster. She gives you access to one of your Canvases, and is a Monster to banish to search with The Weather Snowy Canvas.
Small World can be used in the following ways:
- Dimension Shifter --> Effect Veiler --> The Weather Painter Snow
- Effect Veiler --> Dimension Shifter --> The Weather Painter Snow
- Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring --> Effect Veiler --> The Weather Painter Snow
- Any Level 3 "The Weather" Monster --> The Weather Painter Aurora --> Any Level 3 "The Weather" Monster
Effect Veiler is preferred to Infinite Impermanence to be used as a Small World bridge.
Dimension Shifter is an extremely powerful handtrap against most decks, and also acts as a Small World starter and bridge for The Weather Painter Snow (see above).
Demise of the Land is here to bring out Necrovalley as GY hate against decks that could be encountered in the post POTE meta, like Spright (cuts access to Spright Elf reborn, and Ronintoadin) or Tearlaments (shuts down all Tearlaments GY effects). It may also be useful against many other decks: Exosisters won't really have a way to trigger, Mathmechs lose access to Mathmech Diameter and Mathmech Superfactorial, etc... The Weathers don't really care about Necrovalley, the only effects you lose are the trigger of The Weather Painter Cloud, and the reborn of Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians. But you should be able to search another The Weather Forecast, using your The Weather Snowy Canvas, to out your Necrovalley.
In most cases, you won't use your Extra Deck apart from The Weather Painter Rainbow, or sometimes The Weather Painter Moonbow. The rest of the Extra Deck is here for the really niche cases you need it: Accesscode Talker for OTKs (with Crystron Halqifibrax and Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians package in case you got one Monster on board and Ash or Veiler in hand), Number 49: Fortune Tune and Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder to clear the board, or The Phantom Knights of Break Sword to pop and Leviair the Sea Dragon to go into Number F0: Utopic Draco Future and have a Towers with a negate + steal.
Waking the Dragon is here as a Side Deck option against Backrow hate, but could probably be replaced. I just find it funny to be able to strongly punish your opponent for using Lightning Storm or Harpie's Feather Duster with stuff like The Last Warrior from Another Planet, which locks down summons, or Naturia Exterio, which is basically infinite S/T negates.
Small tips:
- The Weather Painter Snow and The Weather Forecast's effects to place a "The Weather" S/T from Deck cannot be negated by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, since it doesn't fall in any category of effects that Ash can respond to.
- If you go first and your starting hand contains Dimension Shifter and Pot of Extravagance, you can use Shifter in the Draw Phase or Standby Phase, so that you can still use Extravagance at the start of the Main Phase 1
- If you have access to both The Weather Snowy Canvas and The Weather Painter Snow, activate your Canvas first, then Normal Summon Snow. That way, if your opponent tries to Imperm or Veiler your effect on Summon, you can chain your search effect, so that your effect can still resolve, since Veiler and Imperm cannot negate the effect if the Monster is no longer on the field at resolution.
- On the timing when a "The Weather" resummons itself during the Standby Phase, you can activate the effect given by a Canvas to banish itself, then chain Torrential Tribute to get a free board wipe, and then resummon the Monsters that were banished last turn.
Other cards to consider:
- Piri Reis Map could be used to search The Weather Painter Snow, but I voluntarily left it out because it conflicts with Pot of Extravagance.
- Pot of Prosperity could be better than Pot of Extravagance, the only reason I left it out is beacuse the Deck is based on my IRL list, and I cannot afford a playset of it.
- Skill Drain can be a very strong option. The way it only negates Monsters while they are on the field makes "The Weather" Monster resolve their effects successfully, since they banish themselves for cost. You can also remove it from your field with The Weather Painter Thunder, and since Skill Drain will no longer be on the field at resolution, Thunder's effect will resolve successfully and you will be able to place a "The Weather" S/T.
- Mystic Mine could be an option to activate with Demise of the Land, but I think it can hurt you in situations where you have many monsters in rotation.
- As a Side Deck option, I think you could try using Super Polymerization with Garura, Wings of Resonant Life or other targets such as Starving Venom Fusion Dragon.
If you want to go down to 40 cards, I think you could remove 1 Effect Veiler, at the cost of having to choose between Small World bridge and Halq combo into Accesscode Talker, and maybe 1 Torrential Tribute or Called by the Grave.
Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions on this deck, options to consider, mistakes I've made, etc... This is the first time I'm submitting a deck here, so I hope this will be useful to someone!
