"This is a passion project. I recently took this deck to a 2019 Toronto Regionals, and I enjoyed it greatly, even if I only went 3/5 before dropping out to catch my ride home. That was, and I know it sounds questionable but, due more to my inexperience than the effectiveness of the deck. I had no prior experience facing off against Sky Strikers or Mystic Mine, and guess what I faced in the first three rounds? :D And if I'd been more comfortable playing with a timer, I would've defeated the Mystic Mine, as well. I'm not trying to brag, I still lost, I'm just saying the deck performed above my expectations.
My loss to Salamangreats, on the other hand, I have a harder time explaining, but it prompted me to put Called By The Grave in the side as well at 3.
My only major regret was not siding more hate for Sky Strikers in at the time, but I have since addressed that balance with 3 Twin Twister in the main (as opposed to 2 in the previous incarnation) and 2x Eradicator Epidemic in the side. I've also decided to toss my hero, Vanity's Ruler, into the side as well, because I think if I get out Vanity's Ruler and an Eradicator on turn 1 against Orcust or Sky Striker, I might just be able to do the job. "
Post-July Banlist Note: Whew! That was a close one. Nessie and Jackabunny to 2 does kinda suck, but with the sheer draw power of this deck, it's not much of a hit. Not compared to a few decks I could mention. >_>
I look forward to seeing what new and wonderful boards I can try to break this coming season. :D
The overall strategy is simplistic; go second, break whatever board they have over your knee, preferably with a sickening snap, and run them over with your big bois.
There's card draw for days if you get the deck going even just a little bit, and if you're unlucky enough to be forced to go first, a Hope Harbinger and a Felgrand isn't the absolute worst turn 1 ever, just don't overextend for it.
And for anybody who asks about why Grapha is in here, instead of culling the excess Dark World for more famous cards (like Blackwing Zephyros or hand traps or something), the answer is that, on average, we can bring Grapha back 3 times in a turn. Overlays, link summons, beaters, you name it. Ol' Grampa Grapha is the dilapidated boss monster for the job.
And recurring 8's, easy 8's, are a big boon for one of our most fun draw cards: Coach King Giantrainer. Draw 3 cards, most likely inflict a free 2400 damage if you're getting close to running out of time in your match! Yes, I am a bad person! :D
But Phantom Skyblaster is really just a personal preference. I've been using that little punk for years, well before it was cool, so I don't really wanna stop now that he's got a decent task to perform. You could just as easily swap him out for Zephyros or Genex Ally Birdman to bounce your Dangers and just keep drawing, if you wanted.
Yay for choices!
