A Sylvan deck I've been tinkering with for quite a while, plus a small Therion engine. Most of this deck revolves around top decking generally useful monsters to send to the GY with the Sylvan's excavate mechanic, for a lot of incremental value, without many conventional combos. It's important to remember that the Sylvan monsters need to be excavated and sent for their effects, while the other monsters, like Fengli, can just be sent by Romarin. Because this deck lacks any major combos beyond a couple of cards and mainly relies on luck and knowing what you can do with any given cards, this guide will go over the Therion Engine and various synergies within the deck. Remember, above all else, this deck can fold hard to a well placed Ash, depending on your hand, so good luck and stay vigilant.
Therion Engine
The Therion engine can get you some omni negates off of Regulus, some extra 8s for Alsei or Hope Harbinger, and if you use Snapdrassinagon as the target to summon Lily, you get an extra excavation trigger. All you need is Lily in your hand and some way to get a plant monster in the GY.
- Target the plant to summon Lily, equipping it to her, and then use her effect to pop herself (or another card if you have another way to get any copy of her in the GY).
- This adds Discoloseum, which you activate to search Regulus.
- Target a copy of Lily in the GY with Regulus to summon him. Now, you have 1 omni negate for at least 2 turns. Remember, you can send any Therion monster card as cost for his effect, so you can use an equipped Lily or one in your hand as well, then bounce him back to hand with Orea to summon back next turn.
Main Deck
- Your main starter for anything will be Evil Thorn, to get 2 link materials for Dancepione, or Lonefire to get to Evil Thorn.
- Romarin is pretty bad on field and her level is hard to synchro with most of our other monsters, so her main purpose it to be sent to the GY and then send other cards like Fengli to act as our tuner, Aromage Laurel as a time card, or Rose Lover to get extra Link or XYZ material.
- Luckily this deck only has 1 soft brick, in Regulus, but usually you don't want Romarin, Rose Lover, or Fengli in your hand, so Sylvan Charity is a great way to get those cards back into the deck.
- Snowdrop is great for link or XYZ plays, but will also lock you into plants, so weigh your options and go through the Therion engine or the Crossrose play before commiting.
- If you can't go for the Crossrose Play for whatever reason, but you need a synchro, you can summon Fengli and then hopefully excavate Princessprout to summon her and make her whatever level you need for the Synchro.
- Snapdrassinagon is a good card to excavate, because it's usually at least 2 free excavate triggers and can thin your deck a bit. It's also the single best target to summon Lily, as being destroyed when she sends herself to the GY also procs it's effect, which also applies if it's discarded by Princessprite or used as link material.
Extra Deck
- The first thing you usually want to do is link off into Dancepione with something like Evil Thorn, then excavate 3. Usually you can just summon what you want, but make sure to not choose a Cherubsprout, because that can help you get to Crossrose Dragon and make Synchro plays, and don't choose Romarin (see above).
- Relinquished Anima is here to give you a non-plant monster you don't care about losing to make Crossrose Dragon. In very niche circumstances, you can use it as removal, but that will almost never come up.
- By using Reliquished Anima with a random monster, you can summon Crossrose Dragon, then tribute it and a random plant to summon Moonlight Rose Dragon or any of the plant synchros you need at the moment, usually Periallis for the free Special Summon.
- Stellar Wind Wolfrayet is the only Synchro you can't cheat out, and generally you don't want to summon it, but it's usually pretty easy to activate enough effects to get it to max attack in one turn to shuffle back all of your opponents monsters, or act as a beefy 4k beater if you need that. On the bright side, when you do want it, it's pretty easy to bring out with Fengli and any level 8, which we have a lot of.
- Generally you want to call a card not in your deck for Alsei's effect, to trigger it's own effect along with whatever you send to the GY. However, if you put something you want on top with something like Charity, you can call that card to get it into your hand sooner.
- Orea can be used to reset Discolosseum, Regulus or Lily, and more on subsequent turns by returning them to your hand to activate again.
- Underworld Goddess is Underworld Goddess. This deck doesn't have too much trouble getting enough monsters to bring her out, and she's a kaiju we always have access to, plus a very good negate as well.
All in all, I find this deck incredibly fun despite the gambling nature of it, and if you take the time to learn the deck, you probably will too.
