Introduction
This deck carries many staples from my old decks but modernized to still be relevant in 2026, such as Fiends, Jinzo, Monarchs, Power of the Guardians & Sinister Yorishiro.
This deck can be summarized as a Stun/Monarch/Anti-Meta/Tribute/Control hybrid, built to lock the opponent out of the game. It combines three oppressive engines: Monarch tribute mechanics, Jinzo-based trap suppression & floodgate Fiends.
Breakdown
This deck revolves around three main objectives:
- Tribute Summon high-impact floodgate monsters
- Shut down entire mechanics (traps, monster effects, searching, Special Summoning)
- Slow the game to a crawl where your opponent literally cannot play
The deck focuses on Tribute Summoning using Edea the Heavenly Squire & Eidos the Underworld Squire, which together enable double Tribute plays. These are supported by The Monarchs Stormforth and/or Escalation of the Monarchs, allowing you to bring out key threats like Vanity’s Fiend, Majesty’s Fiend, & Jinzo, even during your opponent’s turn. Alternatively, Sinister Yorishiro enables Tribute plays for Vanity’s Fiend & Majesty’s Fiend, while also providing them with protection.
Vanity’s Fiend is the most important card in the deck, acting as a hard lock against Special Summoning.
From there:
- Jinzo protects your board by shutting down all traps
- Majesty’s Fiend prevents monster effects entirely
Together, these create layered lockdowns that many decks cannot break. Inspector Boarder also plays a key role by heavily limiting effect activations.
The absence of an Extra Deck is intentional, maximizing the effectiveness of Domain of the True Monarchs & Anchamoufrite.
- Domain of the True Monarchs locks your opponent out of their Extra Deck as long as you control a Tribute Summoned monster, while also boosting their ATK by 800 (2400 → 3200).
- Anchamoufrite provides draw power & the occasional Special Summon utility when needed.
The deck only runs 6 traps due to Jinzo, making heavy trap investment unnecessary. However, each trap serves a purpose when Jinzo isn’t active:
- Infinite Impermanence – flexible negation
- Metaverse – quick access to Domain
- Escalation of the Monarchs – Tribute Summon during opponent’s turn
- Lose 1 Turn – strong anti-Special Summon control (I had to choose between Lose 1 Turn or There Can Be Only One, Lose 1 Turn was better)
- Sinister Yorishiro – Tribute enabler and protection
The deck also runs a heavy lineup of hand traps to disrupt the opponent before your floodgates hit, ensuring you can survive going second or stabilize early.
Matchups & Weaknesses
This deck performs extremely well against:
- Combo decks
- Trap-based strategies
- Extra Deck-reliant decks
However, it does have weaknesses:
- Bricking due to Tribute-heavy hands
- Vulnerability to spell-based removal
- Inconsistency from mixed engines
Success with this deck depends on:
- Identifying which floodgate wins each matchup
- Proper timing of Stormforth + Escalation plays
- Careful resource management
This deck isn't beginner friendly as there's a lot of high decision pressure, you have to think:
- Which floodgate wins this matchup?
- Do I summon Vanity’s or hold for Majesty’s or Jinzo?
- When do I Stormforth?
- When do I summon Domain?
- Is this the right summon? one wrong summon = you lose the game, if you misplay, you brick & pass.
Even with that all said, it's pretty straight-forward mechanically:
- Simple win condition - You’re not comboing, you’re summoning cards like Vanity’s Fiend or Jinzo & saying “no.”
- Low mechanical complexity - No long chains, no Extra Deck lines, no memorizing 10-step combos.
- Clear card roles - Each floodgate has an obvious purpose.
Remember when this deck works, it completely shuts the opponent out of the game: They don’t lose because you out-combo them, they lose because they never get to play.
When the crossroads finds you, remember who sent you there...
