Are you a "Yugi-Boomer" who somehow wanted to use the nostalgia bait Shining Sarcophagus cards that you just pulled in a viable deck? You've picked the correct article to read!
Shining Sarcophagus turns out to be totally playable and meta-viable in Masterduel ladder as an engine mixed with Runick! Runick adds power, consistency, toolbox options and more to a nostalgia bait deck that would otherwise pathetically fold to one interruption. Along with the usual Runick interruptions, Shining Sarcophagus adds another layer of defense with Silent Swordsman Zero's targeting negate and Silent Magician Zero's spell negate. This deck also pumps out level 4s very easily, giving you access to powerful floodgates like Bagooska and Abyss Dweller! The deck is also a simple one-card combo that grants you everything from just 1 Turn Silence, Shining Sarcophagus and Gadget Trio, so with Runick's draw 3 it's fairly consistent to bring out.
But honestly, the point of playing this "weaker" Runick deck (compared to a powerhouse like Spright Runick) is to play with Yugi's amazingly cool cards from the original Duel Monsters anime! I tried my absolute best to somehow make these cards meta viable and able to face powerful strategies as an equal. While it may not win everygame, your opponent wouldn't do well to underestimate it since it's actually quite powerful when Shining Sarcophagus + Runick gets its strategy rolling!
The fact that these cards are relevant in 2024 tickles my childlike boomer heart, and I hope it does for yours too!
