Raidraptors for Monster Type Festival: King of the Island
Deck Primer
This deck requires 15 SR and 5 UR non-staples, so it's a bit on the expensive side. However there is some room for changing out some of those.
Here's my reasoning for the inclusion of the individual cards:
Staples:
Maxx "C" : Does this card really need an explanation? This is a going second deck, more cards in hand is always better, enough said.
Raigeki : Clean up those pesky monsters on your opponents side of the field, can be easily replaced with lightning storm.
Harpie's Feather Duster : Clean up those pesky spells/traps on your opponents side of the field, can be easily replaced with lightning storm.
Crossout Designator : Prevent Infinite Impermanence , Called by the Grave on your turn and sometimes even Raigeki and Harpie's Feather Duster , assuming you haven't used them up yet, on your opponents turn from ruining your day.
Infinite Impermanence : Timed right, this thing stops opponents boards before they can happen.
Main Deck Cards:
Raidraptor - Pain Lanius : Free special summon, as long as you control any other Raidraptor monster. Should only be used on lvl 4 monsters, but can be used in emergencies for link material for Raidraptor - Wise Strix .
Raidraptor - Heel Eagle : Free special summon, as long as you control any other Raidraptor monster. Link material for Raidraptor - Wise Strix . Graveyard effect is useful to recycle Raidraptor - Call or Raidraptor - Nest .
Raidraptor - Mimicry Lanius : Best target to send to GY with Raidraptor - Tribute Lanius , since its GY effect can search half your deck. Depending on your hand and field you can add Raider's Wing , Raidraptor - Fuzzy Lanius, Raidraptor - Strangle Lanius , Raidraptor - Pain Lanius or Raidraptor - Heel Eagle for some free special summons or Raidraptor - Nest to search with it, provided your field already has 2 Raidraptors. In rare cases used to increase the level of your monsters to 5 and go into Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon directly.
Raidraptor - Tribute Lanius : Best card to normal summon or special summon with Swallow's Nest . Send either Raidraptor - Mimicry Lanius for a free search or Raidraptor - Fuzzy Lanius to get another Raidraptor - Fuzzy Lanius to your hand. In extremely rare cases you could also send Raidraptor - Heel Eagle to recover Raidraptor - Nest or Raidraptor - Call .
Raidraptor - Fuzzy Lanius : Free special summon, as long as you control any other Raidraptor monster, and adds another one to your hand if send to the GY (also works when detached as XYZ material).
Raidraptor - Singing Lanius : Good card to add to your hand with Raidraptor - Force Strix , since then you can immediately special summon it to the field.
Raidraptor - Necro Vulture : Highly optional card, can be replaced with another Raidraptor - Fuzzy Lanius for example. Normally used to tribute itself to recover a rank-up spell, only really useful if the game goes on for a while or if you special summon it with Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon to recover the rank-up spell you used to get it out in the first place.
Raider's Wing : Good card to special summon with Raidraptor - Wise Strix , since the protection part for the XYZ monster that has it as material and its GY effect are the most interesting parts about it and those are of course not affected by the negation of its effect on field.
Raidraptor - Strangle Lanius : Free special summon, as long as you control any other Raidraptor monster. Really good card to search with Raidraptor - Force Strix , while Raidraptor - Wise Strix is on filed since after you use the rank-up spell Raidraptor - Wise Strix searches on Raidraptor - Force Strix you can use Raidraptor - Strangle Lanius on field effect to special summon another monster from your GY.
Rank-Up-Magic Raid Force : Used to either turn one of your rank 4s into Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon to blow up your opponents monster (since they probably control only, or at least mostly special summoned monsters) or to turn one of your rank 6s into Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon to go for game.
Raidraptor - Call : Duplicate one of your monsters on field.
Rank-Up-Magic Skip Force : Turn your Raidraptor - Force Strix into a Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon to pop a monster on your opponents side of the field and inflict some burn damage. Or turn one of your rank 6s into Raidraptor - Satellite Cannon Falcon to get rid of your opponents spells/traps.
Wing Requital : Since you're basically always going to have 2 or more winged beasts and only winged beasts on your field this is just a pot of greed.
Raidraptor - Nest : Since you're basically always going to have 2 or more Raidraptors on your field this is just a free search. Can be searched with Raidraptor - Mimicry Lanius . Can also recycle cards from the GY back to your hand or extra deck.
Swallow's Nest : Turn one of your lvl 4 monsters into Raidraptor - Tribute Lanius to get your combos started or in incredibly rare cases into Raidraptor - Necro Vulture to recover a rank up spell, or Raidraptor - Mimicry Lanius to increase your monsters levels by 1. Also provides some protection against targeting effects like Infinite Impermanence for your lvl 4 monsters.
Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Force : Can be used on your opponents turn to go into Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon - Air Raid to destroy a monster or Raidraptor - Satellite Cannon Falcon , to blow up their backrow, for some disruption or to go into basically your whole extra deck, provided you have enough stuff in your GY. In most cases you won't have enough to go into Raidraptor - Final Fortress Falcon so you don't need to save up this card to try and go into it later (especially since the GY effect of Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon can special summon it with its protection live anyway). Also provides some protection against targeting effects like Infinite Impermanence for your XYZ monsters.
Xyz Align : Highly optional card. Mainly used to go into Raidraptor - Satellite Cannon Falcon to blow up backrow or in some rare cases into Raidraptor - Final Fortress Falcon to recycle your banished cards back to your GY ( Raidraptor - Final Fortress Falcon won't have its protection then, since it doesn't have an XYZ monster as material).
Extra Deck:
Raidraptor - Rise Falcon : Can single-handedly win you the game if your opponent leaves out multiple weak special summoned monsters in attack mode and one strong monster. The ATK gain is permanent. Rarely happens though, but incredibly satisfying if it does.
Raidraptor - Force Strix : The card you'll be summoning the most often. Its search is only a soft once per turn so if you bring it out multiple times you can search multiple times. Use a rank-up magic on it after you've searched to get one of your other extra deck monsters depending on board state.
Raidraptor - Blade Burner Falcon : Incredibly situational, probably the card you'll summon the least and is mainly only there to be able to bring out another 2 material rank 4 to rank up on, in case all your Raidraptor - Force Strix have already been used.
Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon : Lets you blow up all of your opponents special summoned monster. An extra pop for normal summoned ones during the battle phase.
Raidraptor - Stranger Falcon : A free targeted monster destruction with some good burn damage. Since you most likely brought it out by ranking up, it will have another XYZ monster attached which it can special summon from the grave in case it gets destroyed.
Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon : A free targeted monster destruction with some minor burn damage. Can beat over any special summoned monster, as long as it's not just plain unaffected by everything, and its ATK/DEF reduction doesn't target. Also the ATK/DEF reduction applies also when it is being attacked. (also notice the lack of "until the end of the turn" with the ATK/DEF reduction).
Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon - Air Raid : Good card to bring out on your opponents turn with Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Force to destroy one of their monsters. Floats into Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon on destruction.
Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon : Can special summon anything from your deck without negating that cards effects. Floats into Raidraptor - Final Fortress Falcon with its protection active on destruction. Can easily inflict 7500 or sometimes even 10000 points of damage with direct attacks, since its "attack as many times as it has materials" doesn't specify "on monsters" and it can be easily brought out with 3 materials by ranking it up once on Raidraptor - Force Strix with Phantom Knights' Rank-Up-Magic Force or twice on Raidraptor - Force Strix with a combination of either 2 different ones of the rank-up spells, while either destroying all special summoned monsters if Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon was your stepping stone (you'll lose one material then) or only one monster with Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon or Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon - Air Raid without losing material.
Raidraptor - Satellite Cannon Falcon : Brought out either by ranking up or going into it with Xyz Align . Destroys all of your opponents backrow without them being able to respond to it in any way.
Raidraptor - Final Fortress Falcon : Unaffected by everything if brought out by ranking up or by Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcons effect. Pretty good boss monster to fall back on if things go wrong.
Raidraptor - Wise Strix : Probably the first monster you special summon from your extra deck. Lets you summon one lvl 4 from your deck, which normally lets you go into Raidraptor - Force Strix and by activating its search lets you add a rank-up spell to your hand, to access the rest of your extra deck toolbox.
Some final thoughts:
You might think about freing up 2 spaces in the extra deck, so you can add Zoodiac Chakanine and Zoodiac Drident . However since most Raidraptor cards lock you into only being able to summon Raidraptors, there probably won't be any situations where you can actually summon Zoodiac Drident . And since you need to summon Zoodiac Chakanine first and summon Zoodiac Drident on top of it, you cannot special summon it on your opponents turn with something like Wonder Xyz .
Foolish Burial is something to consider to replace a Raidraptor - Call , since by sending Raidraptor - Fuzzy Lanius or Raidraptor - Mimicry Lanius you can basically get an additional special summon too.
Monster Reborn is also an option to eliminate another Raidraptor - Call .
Rank-Up-Magic Soul Shave Force is also a consideration, but since Cyber Dragon Infinity isn't available, it doesn't seem worth it.
Raidraptor's Phantom Knights Claw , Raptor's Gust and Raidraptor - Booster Strix are also worth considering if you want to turn this into a going first deck, maybe even Raidraptor - Readiness .
If you want to cut down on the amount of cards locking you into Raidraptors you can consider Simorgh, Bird of Perfection to send Simorgh, Bird of Protection to add Elborz, the Sacred Lands of Simorgh , to then summon Simorgh, Bird of Protection from the grave and normal summon another winged beast from your hand using Elborz, the Sacred Lands of Simorgh .
Another option to get around the only Raidraptors thing is to combine Raidraptor - Singing Lanius , Raider's Wing and Raidraptor - Strangle Lanius with Blackwings like Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite , Blackwing - Bora the Spear and Blackwing - Kris the Crack of Dawn to get more lvl 4s on the field and go into the Raidraptor - Wise Strix / Raidraptor - Force Strix plays like usual, with Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite being a prime target to special summon from the deck with Raidraptor - Wise Strix , since we're only interested in its GY effect and if you return a Blackwing - Bora the Spear you can summon it right back, since Blackwing - Bora the Spear isn't once per turn.
Seventh Ascension is also worth some consideration for some more rank up-spell searching.
I know it's kind of expensive for a deck that's not neccessarily that strong (seriously, without Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon this deck is less than half as strong as it could be), but I find it incredibly fun to play, especially since every game feels unique with the numerous ways the extra deck toolbox lets you respond to the opponents filed.
Have fun and good luck in the festival.
