I really enjoy Tri-Brigade as a Deck. It was the first Deck that I crafted when Master Duel first came out, and I even bought Lyrilusc Tri-Brigade in real life. There are a couple of issues with Tri-Brigade in the current day and age. First of all, Tri-Brigade as an archetype feels almost too fair compared to more recently released archetypes. Like what is activating the effect of Tri-Brigade Fraktall in hand compared to activating Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi in hand? What is the interruption and card advantage provided by Tri-Brigade Revolt compared to the number of effects that will trigger after a Ketu Dracotail resolves going second? Second, Tri-Brigade loses to a number of handtraps, especially when they come in multiples, considering the sheer amount of non-engine Decks play nowadays. As good as the new support for Tri-Brigade is, it actually gave the Deck some much larger chokepoints. Tri-Brigade Arms Mouser is an incredible card, being able to straight-up send 2 Tri-Brigade cards with different names from your Deck and/or Extra Deck to the GY on Link Summon. However, it has the same issue as Majespector Orthrus - Nue in that it has a massive target on its back for pretty much any handtrap: Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Infinite Impermanence just to name some. Not to mention that the Deck itself is susceptible to Dominus Impulse (you can Impulse all the Main Deck Tri-Brigade monsters save for Mercourier), Nibiru, the Primal Being (unless you are playing Radiant Typhoon and even that is a stretch), Mulcharmy Fuwalos (to some degree) and even Artifact Lancea because Maliss is still running around. Between Fraktall’s hand effect and Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt’s hand effect, we are also liable to be stopped by a K9-17 Izuna going into most of the Rank 5’s that people play for Izuna. Somehow the Deck doesn’t have too much of a problem with Droll & Lock Bird in like 2 out of 3 hands, but that doesn’t make up for the other handtraps that it has issues with.
If we were to take into consideration the Tri-Brigade variants that were successful in the past, they really aren’t that great today. Lyrilusc Tri-Brigade is miserable into both Fuwalos and Mulcharmy Purulia and it almost has no space for non-engine. Also, what are you going to do if your opponent Drolls you on resolution of your first search with Lyrilusc Recital Starling? Zoodiac Tri-Brigade: It has Zoodiac Drident and 3 Zoodiac Barrage back now. But the Deck is Normal Summon reliant, it plays terribly into Fuwalos, the Zoo cards take up a lot of space in the Extra Deck, and you are not going to see a Zoo card in every hand. Radiant Typhoon is probably the best way to approach a modern version of Tri-Brigade as the Radiant Typhoon cards don’t use your Normal Summon and they can even make a Number 75: Bamboozling Gossip Shadow first, granted that you drew a way to make Mouser without the Radiant Typhoon cards, so that you can at least fade one monster-based handtrap. However, I am going to be looking at Pure Tri-Brigade here. One upside is that you don’t have to allot 6-8 Main Deck spaces for the Radiant Typhoon package, and another is that you can play a lot of non-engine. Also, you have more opportunities to kind of bait out interruptions from your opponent, which really only works if your opponent doesn’t know how to play against Tri-Brigade.
Not really any set combo for the Deck, but you mainly just want to get 2 Beast, Beast-Warrior, and/or Winged Beasts on the field to make Mouser and then put all of the good Main Deck Tri-Brigade names with GY effects into your GY/banishment before getting to a copy of Revolt. Along the way, you can even make an Ancient Warriors Oath - Double Dragon Lords for an additional piece of interruption as well. If your opponent tries to interrupt you, we are playing Called by the Grave and Crossout Designator. If their interruption goes through, we can still try to assemble some interruption before passing to our opponent and hoping that we drew enough non-engine to stop our opponent from going off on us.
Main Deck: 3 Rescue Cat. You can send it from field to GY in order to Special Summon 2 Level 3 or lower Beast monsters from Deck with their effects negated and they are destroyed during the End Phase. Other than Rescue Cat basically giving you the necessary material to make Mouser, it is also a handtrap magnet that you can use to hopefully bait out interaction from your opponent as soon as your turn starts going first. Also, not every hand in this Deck is Normal Summon reliant, so just having Rescue Cat as an option to Normal Summon first to bait out interaction is very nice. For the original Tri-Brigade monsters: 3 Tri-Brigade Fraktall, 2 Tri-Brigade Kerass, 3 Tri-Brigade Kitt, and 3 Tri-Brigade Nervall. Each of them can banish any number of Beast, Beast-Warrior, and/or Winged Beast monsters from your GY to Special Summon a Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast Link Monster from your Extra Deck whose Link Rating is equal to the number of monsters you banished. The banishing is a cost, the Summon is not treated as a Link Summon, and you are also locked into using only Beast, Beast-Warrior, and/or Winged Beast monsters as Link Material for the rest of this turn. Fraktall’s unique effect is that it can send itself from hand or field to GY to send a Level 3 or lower Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster from Deck to GY. You are always sending either OG Kitt or Nervall with this effect, and what it really helps with is that it not only triggers the GY effects of Kitt and Nervall, but it also loads your GY up with Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beasts for you to banish for you Tri-Brigade effects later in the turn. Kerass can discard 1 other Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster from hand in order to Special Summon itself from hand. Kerass Special Summoning itself from hand by its own effect does give you the material necessary to make Mouser on the spot, which is nice. But, it is not something that you want to be doing every single hand you open, which is why we are only playing 2 copies. More or less, it is another Tri-Brigade name that we can search during our turn in order to use its effect to Special Summon a Link Monster. OG Kitt can send a Tri-Brigade card from Deck to GY, except for itself, if it is sent to the GY. Before, you would almost always send Nervall with this effect, but because the new Kitt, Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt is coming out in BPRO, you have the option to send that instead. As for Tri Springans Kitt’s use case with OG Kitt, I will talk about it when we get to her. Nervall searches for a Tri-Brigade monster from Deck if it is sent to the GY. It’s a good effect. What do you want me to say? 3 Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt. You can Special Summon her from hand if you control a Tri-Brigade or Springans monster other than a Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt. This is an activated effect in hand by the way. Also, if she is sent to GY, you can Special Summon a Tri-Brigade monster, a Springans monster, a Fallen of Albaz or a monster that mentions Fallen of Albaz from your GY other than Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt. Besides being a nice extender for Tri-Brigade that can help you put the necessary monsters on field to make Mouser, its GY effect is insane. Normal Summon Tri-Brigade Kitt, Link her into Salamangreat Almiraj, trigger Kitt’s effect in GY to send Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt to GY, trigger Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt’s effect in GY to Special Summon the other Kitt back from GY, and then you can activate Kitt’s effect on field, banishing Tri Springans Kitt from GY to Special Summon Scareclaw Light-Heart. That is a Beast and a Beast-Warrior on field that you can then use to Link Summon Mouser. You can also accomplish the exact same thing with Foolish Burial or Fraktall’s effect, sending Tri-Brigade Kitt from Deck to GY. You can also make use of Tri Springans Kitt’s GY effect after you make Mouser instead of using it to make Mouser. Instead of using Mouser’s effect on Link Summon to send Nervall and a Tri-Brigade Arms Bucephalus II from Deck/Extra Deck to GY, you can send OG Kitt from Deck to GY instead of Bucephalus. Kitt would then send Tri Springans Kitt to GY who would then bring back either Nervall or OG Kitt. What I am trying to get to here is that Tri Springans Kitt opens up new lines for the Deck that can help prevent you from overcommitting to too many cards in order for you to keep enough cards in your hand and/or Extra Deck for follow-up plays. As for whether or not you are going to search this card off of Nervall, you are rarely ever going to be doing that. Searching for a Tri-Brigade with the effect to banish Tri-types from GY to Special Summon a Link Monster out of the Extra Deck is far more important than getting an extender. For handtraps: 1 Nibiru, the Primal Being, 3 Mulcharmy Fuwalos. 3 Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, 2 Droll & Lock Bird, and 1 D.D. Crow. The single copy of Nibiru is mainly for Crossout purposes, but the D.D. Crow can actually be searched if you weave a Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen into your combo. I was also considering 2 Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, but I gut those in favor of some of the non-engine Spell/Traps we are playing.
Spell/Traps: 1 Foolish Burial. I described what this card can do by sending Tri-Brigade Kitt already. Getting to Mouser without committing to a Normal Summon is great. 3 Fire Formation - Tenki. Searches Fraktall, who basically has similar role to Foolish Burial for his hand effect. 1 Tri-Brigade Hammer. This can either add a Tri-Brigade Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand except for another copy of Hammer. Or, it can banish any number of Tri-Brigade cards from your GY to Special Summon a Tri-Brigade Link Monster from your Extra Deck whose Link Rating is equal to the number of cards you banished, ignoring its Summoning Conditions. You are also locked into being only able to Special Summon Beast, Beast-Warrior, and/or Winged Beast monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn. I’ll tell you why this card was printed: Nobody was hard-Summoning Tri-Brigade Arms Bucephalus II for the 2 (almost 3) years that it has been out, and this card is able to cheat it out because it ignores Summoning Conditions. So, you don’t need to have 3+ Tri-Brigade Spell/Traps in your GY to Special Summon it from your Extra Deck. Am I going to be Summoning him now? NOPE. Why? I am not going to be banishing 5 Tri-Brigade cards from my GY in order to Special Summon a 3500 ATK monster whose most useful effect on the field is “When a monster declares an attack: You can banish this card, also banish all cards your opponent controls”. Tri-Brigade can OTK fine. You don’t need to also have a board wipe from Bucephalus II. We are playing hammer because if you draw Hammer and your opponent decides to interrupt you at the point where you would be using Bearbrumm’s effect to search for Revolt, you can instead use Hammer to add Revolt instead. Also, if you activated a The Fallen & The Virtuous on your opponent’s turn, you can send The Dragon that Devours the Dogma from Extra Deck to GY who will then search for Hammer during the End Phase. You can then use Hammer on your following turn to banish 2 Tri-Brigade cards from your GY to quickly Special Summon a LINK-2 Tri-Brigade and trigger Shuraig’s effect on field for a banish in an ideal situation. Some other Tri-Brigade Spell/Traps that people like to play to potentially be searched off of Hammer are Tri-Brigade Showdown and Tri-Brigade Oath. I was playing Oath originally, but it is really extra. It feels nice to have, especially for recycling banished Tri-Brigade Link Monsters that you didn’t properly Link Summon, but it still isn’t that big of a boon to you in the grand scheme of things. Oath is also fine, but at the same time, Revolt is still the superior card in terms of interruption and gaining resources. If I were to suggest playing either one, it would probably be Showdown. 3 The Fallen & The Virtuous, which we are using for its first effect which sends a monster that mentions Fallen of Albaz from Extra Deck to GY to target a face-up card on field to destroy. As mentioned, I was playing Ghost Belle before I considered playing The Fallen & The Virtuous and Triple Tactics over them. I just wanted a more universally applicable card to play to go over 40 cards in the Main Deck to draw a good number of non-engine in our opener in addition to engine. 1 Called by the Grave, 1 Crossout Designator, and 1 Triple Tactics Talent. 3 Infinite Impermanence. 1 Tri-Brigade Revolt. This card just keeps getting better each time Tri-Brigade gets new support. Before, you would get a banish from the Shuraig you Summon, a send off of OG Kitt, an add off of Nervall, and maybe a draw off of Ferrijit. Now, you can get a banish from the Shuraig you Summoned, a send off of OG Kitt, an add off of Nervall, you can Book a monster with Mouser, and you can even Special Summon back a Tri-Brigade from GY with Tri Springans Kitt.
Extra Deck: 1 Albion the Branded Dragon. During the End Phase, if it is in the GY because it was sent there this turn, you can add to your hand or set a Branded Spell/Trap from your Deck. As you may know, this card is a great send off of The Fallen & The Virtuous. 1 The Dragon that Devours the Dogma. During the End Phase, if it is in the GY because it was sent there this turn, you can add a Dogmatika or a Tri-Brigade card from Deck to hand. This card is another good send off of The Fallen & The Virtuous as it can search you a Tri-Brigade card for follow-up. It can also act as an alternative send off of Bucephalus II in case that you value a search during the End Phase more than a draw off of Garura, but you do have to not banish Dragon that Devours the Dogma as it needs to remain in the GY during the End Phase to trigger. 1 Garura, Wings of Resonant Life which draws you a card off of being sent to the GY. This card is the usual send off of Bucephalus II because it nets you a card and is a Winged Beast in GY that you can banish for your Tri-Brigade effects. 1 Tri-Brigade Arms Bucephalus II which can send a Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster from your Extra Deck to the GY if it is sent to the GY. More or less, Bucephalus is mainly used as a send off of Mouser in order to put more Tri-type monsters in GY for banish fodder while also possibly benefitting off of whatever Bucephalus then sends from the Extra Deck to the GY. 1 Accesscode Talker. I know that I said that Tri-Brigade can frequently put enough damage on board to OTK, but having another large monster you can access who can also destroy cards on field without being able to be responded to is still very good and helpful for guaranteeing an OTK. I will say that you have to be careful not to use Mouser’s effect on Link Summon in the same turn you want to make Accesscode because Mouser’s first effect locks you into Tri-types from the Extra Deck. 2 Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen which, if Special Summoned or if another Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster(s) is Special Summoned to your field, can non-targeting banish a card from the field. If it is sent to the GY, you can add a Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster from your Deck to your hand whose Level is equal to or less than the number of your banished Beast, Beast-Warrior, and/or Winged Beast monsters. His non-targeting banish effect that triggers on either his own Special Summon or on the Special Summon of another Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast to your field is just really good removal. Shuraig being able to also float is great for searching for a monster for follow-up or an extender when you are weaving him into your set-up combo. If you really wanted to, you can forgo the Accesscode Talker for a 3rd Shuraig which can theoretically come up. But, you could always cut the 2nd Mouser for a 3rd Shuraig instead. 1 Tri-Brigade Rugal the Silver Sheller. During your opponent’s Main Phase, he can Quick Effect Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast from your hand or GY with its effects negated and it is returned to the hand during the End Phase. This can either be used to wall up on your opponent or Special Summon a monster from GY that will be returned to the hand during the End Phase (if it sticks around) so that you can use it for follow-up. Rugal’s GY effect reduces all your opponent’s monsters’ ATK by 300 for each Monster Type you control until the end of the turn if he is sent to the GY. THis doesn’t come up too often, but it can help lower the ATK of some large monsters by a degree if you play with this effect in mind. 2 Tri-Brigade Arms Mouser. On Link Summon, she can send 2 Tri-Brigade cards with different names from your Deck and/or Extra Deck to the GY except for herself, but you are locked into Special Summoning Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beast monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. If she is sent to the GY, you can target a face-up monster on the field and change it to face-down Defense Position. Mouser is an insane card, both for set-up and interruption via either being sent from field to GY for the effect of Double Dragon Lords or Special Summoned from GY and Linked off by Revolt’s effect. You just have to be careful of how much of a handtrap magnet she is when you are setting-up. 1 Tri-Brigade Ferrijit the Barren Blossom which can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast from your hand, which locks you into using only Tri-types for Link Material for the rest of the turn. Also, if she is sent to GY, you can draw a card and then place a card from hand on the bottom of the Deck. 1 Tri-Brigade Bearbrumm the Rampant Rampager which can discard 2 cards to target a banished Level 4 or lower Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast and Special Summon it. This effect can come up, but you aren’t going to be using it every Duel. If she is sent to GY, you can search for a Tri-Brigade Spell/Trap and then place a card from hand on the bottom of the Deck, but this locks you into Special Summoning Tri-Brigades for the rest of the turn. 1 Ancient Warriors Oath - Double Dragon Lords which can Quick Effect send a card from hand or field to GY to target a face-up card your opponent controls and bounce it to hand. 1 Yummy★Snatchy as a LINK-1 Beast-Warrior we can Link into with specifically Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt or cheat out with our Tri-Brigade effects to help get to Mouser. I was originally playing a Scareclaw Light-Heart instead because I am more partial towards the little guy, but since Snatchy can be made with Kitt, that may come up in certain situations. 1 Salamangreat Almiraj for Linking off either Kitt or Nervall.
Side Deck: 2 Nibiru, the Primal Being, 3 Mulcharmy Purulia, 3 Mulcharmy Meowls. 3 Book of Eclipse, 2 Evenly Matched, 1 Anti-Spell Fragrance, and 1 Solemn Judgment.
