A bunch of new Fire King support cards has arrived in Masterduel - enabling the strategy to effectively be played pure. Fire King's consistency, power and gameplan has been buffed and streamlined so that now it has a even more powerful gameplan, a robust grindgame and the ability to field 15+ staples in the maindeck!
Since the "pure" version of this deck is relatively simple, I'm not going to write a gigantic strategy article on it. If you want a great guide on "pure" Fire Kings, I highly recommend Yacine656's video found here.
Fire King's end board usually consists of a set up Fire King Sanctuary, Fire King Island with at least two level 8s on board (to nuke your opponent's board with Garunix Eternity using Sanctuary's trigger effect) as well as a set-up graveyard full of follow-up. Your hand will also contain several handtraps to augment your board.
While the pure Fire King may seem deceptively simply and therefore, weak - it is surprisingly potent in Masterduel's meta. Nearly every card triggers float effects either from hand, deck or GY. Special summons can be played minimally in this deck to combat Maxx "C," or the deck can combo off with Promethean Princess -> Fire Link 4 fairly competently for a more powerful board. Fire Kings can also generate a ton of advantage and ATK power extremely quickly. The deck also has natural ways to combat the ever common backrow floodgates through Fire King Sky Burn. Fire King monsters on the field can also reliably dodge targeting effects because quick effect in-archetype cards like Sky Burn, Circle of Fire Kings and High Avatar Kirin all destroy your monsters.
When piloted correctly, Fire Kings basically has no "bad match-ups" in today's metagame, since it basically has answers to (almost) everything. Played "pure," Fire Kings might not have as much power as Snake-Eye, Kashtira or Branded, but it makes up for it with its versatility, adaptability and grindgame. All in all, Fire Kings played as a "pure" deck remains a solid meta choice for Masterduel ladder!
