Ursarctic is one of those archetypes you either don't care about, be one of the 10 people to play the deck, or look at for the very first time since this is the first time you've ever heard of their existence.
I decided that with all of my knowledge of this often-overlooked archetype to try and break it - so instead of being absolute garbage, it's only slightly viable!
So... what does this deck even do?
Your main goal is to build a board of some powerful Synchro monsters, along with Apollousa... yeah, I really tried to make this thing good.
Your main starters are Deep Sea Diva & Ursarctic Mikpolar. Keep in mind that Ursarctic Mikpolar can be searched off of Small World & Ursarctic Departure, while Diva can only be searched off Small World and Dragoons.
You also have a couple of other extenders, including the really small P.U.N.K. engine and the two copies of Ran Aegirine. The P.U.N.K. engine also gives you access to the Level 10 Synchro pool, giving you access to Baronne, but if you can't afford one, you can instead go into Chengying. Of course, the P.U.N.K. engine will mainly get you into Synchro 8 plays, giving you access to Dragite to continue setting up board with a nice Spell/Trap negate. Another great extender released in Duelist Nexus is Ultimate Bright Knight Ursatron Alpha, which can search Ursarctic Radiation which can get you more resources or search Ursarctic Departure which can add more cards from your Deck to your hand.
Your boss monsters are Ursarctic Septentrion, Stellar Wind Wolfrayet, and some of the other monsters we mentioned previously. Septentrion is a walking floodgate negating all monsters without Levels, and Wolfrayet is a monster that slowly gains attack and then spins all of your opponent's monsters after they activate a lot of monster effects.
- 1-Card Diva Combo
If you remember those combos with Goyo Defender and the BA monsters, this is what you're doing. Diva can technically be used for other things, but this makes the card function more like an engine, and it seemed necessary to include this.
- Normal Summon Diva.
- Activate Diva's effect to bring out Neptabyss.
- Use Neptabyss to dump Dragoons and add Poseidra.
- Use the effect of Dragoons to either search out another Poseidra to go into Ursarctic plays OR Diva in case your board gets wiped next turn.
- Synchro Summon Goyo Defender using Diva and Neptabyss.
- Use Goyo Defender's effect to bring out another Goyo Defender. Do this again with the second Goyo Defender.
- Link 2 of the Goyo Defenders off into Cherubini.
- Use the effect of Cherubini to dump Graff.
- Use the effect of Graff to Special Summon Cir to a zone Cherubini points to.
- Link the last Goyo Defender, Graff, and Cherubini off for a 3 material Apollousa.
Keep in mind, there are still other plays depending on what else you drew.
Ursarctic Mikpolar + 2 Ursarctic monsters
Really simple combo to make a Level 9 Synchro monster or Ursarctic Synchro monster.
In addition to this, if you draw Radiation, you can chain block certain effects that would be stopped with common hand traps. It's really nice!
- Activate Mikpolar's effect to Tribute any Ursarctic monster, Special Summoning itself.
- Use Mikpolar's effect on summon to add an Ursarctic Tuner if you already don't have one in hand, or add anything else to Tribute off.
- Use the effect of the Tuner to Special Summon itself. (You can use its second effect, but it is not necessary)
- Make Polari using Mikpolar and the Tuner.
- Use Polari's effect to activate Big Dipper.
- Use Polari's second effect to bring back the Tuner by banishing any Ursarctic monster except the Tuner (the Tribute is replaced with a banish from GY thanks to Big Dipper).
- Synchro Summon Wolfrayet or make Septentrion or Grand Chariot.
