I'll put multiple sections here depending on what I'm talking about. Uh yeah
*uploaded Feb 2023, post-Tear & pre-Kash meta formats.
*updated May 2023; switched a handful of side deck cards into deck and vice versa, due to becoming more important since posting. No new cards added in, so no worries.
*** All mentionings of "Evil Eye Unleashed" are made before the TCG released the card, where the translation was printed as "Evil Eye Resurrection". This may come up frequently when discussing Optimal Hands + Searches, as its one of the best cards in the deck. It is often the difference that turns a bad hand into a good one, because it foolishes two cards *for cost*; the search after that is what can be negated; the cards sent can be all you need to make pivotal XYZ or Link plays thereafter, and the search is the cherry on top.
okay
////YOUR (optimal) OPENING PLAY:
* serziel w Selene + machinex on field w/ backrow = 4 special summons (nibiru-proof, usually your starting field)
-- effects of indestructibility can't be negated by ashing or effect veiling serziel (another good perk)
* make muckraker with tour guide + sangan, or can search lvl 8 fiends with tour guide + doomdog into muckraker too.
*** for important point: this is more of an Evil Eye strategy than a Labrynth one... experience with Evil Eye comes first before Labrynth, and your most expansive end boards come with utilizing Tour Guide into Sangan, then making Muckraker (to search) plus resummoning sangan on field for next turn in Def. (To tribute for destruction cost of a fiend monster on your field; it gets to search again).
-- If sangan is already all used up, you can special summon doomdog from deck instead for grabbing Lady's of Lab or Lava Golem from deck (if opted in from side deck), however to build more presence on-field, summoning a level 3 evil eye off of tour guide can turn on a lot more options for the deck, namely, your backrow or lvl 3's in hand.
****^^^ (high key).
this deck LOVES having Serziel + Unleashed in opening hand, period. Can be even better if there is another Evil Eye card with that, or labrynth trap, or a staple, or Tour Guide in hand. I simulated this and found some surprising hands allow for advantageous board states to take place; always simulate decks before you buy, generally speaking.
/////EXTRA DECK PLAYS
DO YOU WANNA KNOW HOW TO U-LINK EVIL EYE ; YOU CAN DO IT IN ONE TURN.
* just make sure you get Cerberus on field when you have Gorgon ;') middle can be gryphon or unicorn, whichever you got out first.
*Serziel won't care about Gryphon being on field, since he's rarely special summoned. But if you have gryphon on field and want more traps out of deck, line it up behind one of the two EM zones (most of the time gonna be behind Muckraker), that way you can special summon Silver Lady / Lady Lab from hand (or GY with muck), and Gryphon's arrow will already have an open spot to point at it (the left-most or right-most monster zone, your choice depending on where you began linking at).
* there's some other options for extra deck in side deck, namely Ashura is good when you can get all three lvl 3 evil eyes on field on your first turn instead of two; note, your open is usually serziel, then you get out as many of the different level 3 evil eyes as you can in one turn. I can usually get one out of each, equaling 4 special summons by the end of my main phase when XYZ summoning ashura. Be careful about Nibiru, be conservative for your open, this plays like a hybrid backrow -> towers deck, with link access and rank 3 plays, some monsters work better than others depending on what's running around in the game, so that's why I made a demo side deck, don't discredit them.
//////BACKROW
lots of traps, good traps. Only as much as needed.
* I have more options included in the side deck which might not be what you'd want to see in certain amounts, but they're there for reference. They work well with the deck.
-- there's 15 options for corner cases / Staples like Triple Tactics, which works well in any deck.
More on that later.
* you don't neeeed Gozen Match in this installment, you can accessorize this deck how you want by sacrificing routes (there's lots of small routes you can take, like Ghastly Glitch send Heiress, search Glitch / Lab Arch.) take out what isn't working and buff with other cards you have, this deck without the side is cheap enough to install reasonably, but pick what you want from the side deck if it's something you like, however much you think you'll need; that's why I made it.
(there's about 6-10 cards in this deck you can replace with any staples... make it your own, the core of it is evil eye)
/////MORE BACKROW?
* Fog king? Kash XYZ? Branded Fusions? Defeat them!
* this deck works well with Virus cards if you like that Gambage, although you will get the Evil Eye from your opponents more often than you may like. Bring a Gorgoneio and wear it around your neck if you dare bring that version to a locals or Regionals, you might need it.
*This deck Likes Triple Tactics cards (3 Talents and 2-3 Thrusts work well) I don't have it in because that is expensive.
* I found a funny and unique strategy called run 1 Witch's Strike too. Do the math, this deck's an ash-bait machine, and it might win you an early (or late) game.
*** be careful about your backrow! This labrynth installment doesn't run Lord Of Heavenly Prison because it can't be searched with doomdog (LOHP is lvl 10 Rock, not Lvl 8 Fiend), so while it caaan technically search Lava Golem as another stun option (you can pop it with Serziel after it proc's burn damage or use Evil Eye Defeat to bounce it /+ one more monster back to hand), you want Retribution, the uncounterable counter trap (if selene's on field) on your first turn, usually all the time;
*if you don't have access to Retribution off the first couple searches this deck can do, find something that can search further/ still interrupt like defeat or Farewelcome, or big welcome. and do what you can to have more options like finding retribution or having Defeat in hand, because Defeat procs Labrynth's draw effects just like Compulse; and it's a searchable compulse that can turn into a Double Compulse which is crazy!!! More people need to get on this.
/////BACKROW TIPS, FLOODGATES, + GOZEN
* I entrust this general backrow-creative fiend-liking decklist to Labrynth players, you already know what to do with this, *** but Do not dare go and run 9 floodgates on this like Skill Drain or TCBOO, just throw the whole thing out if that's the case.
- Gozen does enough floodgating (opening it can mean defeat for the other player if their line requires it, while you have Retribution set with Serziel equipped with Selene to protect it backrow from spell/trap destruction), but don't commit to it in the long run or else it'll prevent your Knightmare plays if you've established the board presence to start making more links (this happens rather quickly if you're doing well, but you will want them as options when facing an opponent that has a good recursive deck.)
+ thankfully, in this instance, Serziel + Selene can pop Gozen/Rivalry off your field on your Standby if you need to pivot in that direction.
-!- But do not think Serziel + Selene will be there * all the time* for you, because it won't, or you're paying to put it back on field after it opened for you.
* Be smart about finding room for floodgates in this decklist, unless you open it its not gonna be as effective as it'd be down the line.
-- gozen rarely win me games in this deck, despite its use being obviously powerful. If anything, evenly matched for decks that explode in the open like Kashtira.
This deck needs more stun gimmicks than flipped continuous floodgates, so do not rely on Rivalry to do all the heavy lifting for you; it only helps you bet more advantage in your hand during the following turns so you can extend past that barrier later.
--> Run a handful of floodgates at most and keep it fresh, don't be mystic mine, just be an agile dark fiend tower control with backrow options, because that's what it truly is.
////// BACKROW PLAYS - MONSTERS IN GOZEN MATCH
* a good strat may be lava goleming opponent then flipping Gozen match. This is a funny strat and doesn't prevent your opponent from finding a way out of it, it just looks funny. I didn't say it, you must've just read some scribbles and started thinking about it.
-- i can't predict if hand-tributing monsters will receive flack sooner or later due to everyone main decking them for kashtira, so...
---> know that you can just Defeat your Lava Golem + one more monster on either field back to hand if it gets limited.
* if you saw my side deck slot for amanokujaki, hold hear, search with sangan or Tour guide and make muck, wait until your field is almost filled, then summon from grave with muck, activate its effect, declare attribute they aren't using, then switch control to your opponent. It's not quite an Iblee lock but it's something funny, especially if Gozen / Rivalry follows it. Only downside is your opponent can send it back to you and declare a type on their main phase, unless your field is full! So fill it after using it, be careful what you choose ( pick Fire attribute might bring out their Almiraj instead of doing anything funny at their expense. )
//// BRICKS?
The brickiest of hands here I've seen were just opening sangan + spells and traps, which means you don't have anything to do for a turn (you can side deck Almiraj to help you get sangan's effect off, but search out Basilius or tour guide or Stovie off sangan to ensure that you have a play next turn [Basilius only if you have an unhelpful evil eye card in opening hand; send gorgoneio from deck to grave off Bas, then activate gorgoneio, and circle back into the front of the Evil Eye line from there]).
//// FINALIZE
So you know what this deck does now, be good to it and it'll be good to you, it's at 60 cards but works rather decently. I just wanted to jam together labrynth and evil eye after I got the idea for that when Lab released on Master Duel. (I've been a fan of evil eye since it dropped in duel links, a little after irl.)
Beware, for I may cook again with my favorite deck Evil Eye.
