This is the build I used to reach DLV. MAX in March 2023's Duelist Cup.
Let's start by talking about "missing the timing of activation." Swap Frog's effect text has these two words "when and "can" which is an indicator that this effect in order to activate, no event should take place after the effect's condition "When this card is Summoned." In my case, I activated Ronintoadin's effect (chain 1), then I chained Spright Elf to summon Swap Frog from the GY. Chains in Yu-Gi-Oh! resolve backwards, so Spright Elf summons Swap Frog (the effect must activate at this very moment and cannot wait), chain 2 resolved and we move to chain 1 summoning Ronintoadin. Chain's cannot be interrupted after they start resolving and must resolve fully before any card can be activated, so Swap Frog when it was summoned wanted to activate, but according to the rules that's illegal and since this kind of effect does not wait, it ends up missing the timing of activation.
Things to note about this deck:
- Spright Starter and Gigantic Spright lock you from Special Summoning above Level/Rank/Link 2 monsters. In the case of Gigantic Spright, it locks both you and your oponent from Special Summoning above Level/Rank/Link 2 monsters. The text also says "For the rest of this turn" which means you can still summon any Level/Rank/Link prior to the activation of the effect of any of these two cards.
- Avramax inherently cannot be targeted by any effect and your oponent can only attack him. With I:P Masquerena, Avramax gains protection from destruction. Avramax's effect to gain attack power during Damage Calculation can only work against Special Summoned monsters.
- If you don't have the materials to summon Number 65: Djinn Buster and you're summoning using Spright Elf while Swap Frog is in the GY, make sure to summon it to send another copy of itself to the GY for Ronintoadin. Having that extra Special Summon will always matter.
As usual, you can find the gameplay video below. Enjoy the replays! Peace.
