Childhood Reborn
Deck Primer
The Monsters (16 Cards)
• 3x Dark Magician: Your ultimate boss monster and the primary target for your resurrection loops.
• 1x Dark Magician Girl: Pairs with your support cards and acts as a required material for The Dark Magicians Fusion.
• 3x Apprentice Illusion Magician: Discards itself or others to search for a Dark Magician, or discards mid-battle to give a Spellcaster a massive +2000 ATK/DEF boost.
• 2x Magician of Dark Illusion: Special Summons itself from your hand and revives a Dark Magician from your Graveyard whenever you activate a Spell/Trap on your opponent's turn.
• 3x Magicians' Souls: Sends Dark Magician directly from your deck to the Graveyard as a cost to Special Summon itself instantly.
• 3x Magician's Rod: Your primary searcher. Normal Summon it to instantly grab any Dark Magician Spell or Trap from your deck.
• 1x Timaeus the United Dragon: Discards a Spellcaster to Special Summon itself, then acts as a required material for The Dark Magicians the Dragon Knight Fusion.
The Spells (17 Cards)
• 3x Soul Servant: Stacks your deck, then banishes itself from the Graveyard to let you draw up to 3–4 cards at once based on the Magicians in your Graveyard.
• 1x Illusion of Chaos: You never summon this. You reveal it in your hand to search your deck for Magicians' Souls or Magician's Rod, guaranteeing a perfect opening turn.
• 1x Upstart Goblin: Gives your opponent 1000 LP to let you draw 1 card, effectively shrinking your deck to 40 cards for maximum consistency.
• 2x Dark Magical Circle: Looks at the top 3 cards of your deck when played. While on the field, whenever you summon Dark Magician, it lets you target and permanently banish one card your opponent controls.
• 2x Magician's Salvation: A Field Spell that automatically plays Eternal Soul straight from your deck to the field on Turn 1.
• 2x Dark Magic Expanded: Quick-Play protection that makes your Spells and Traps completely immune to destruction by your opponent's card effects for the turn.
• 2x Secrets of Dark Magic: A Quick-Play Fusion spell used to fuse Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl together during your opponent's turn to disrupt their plays.
• 2x Mystical Space Typhoon: Classic Quick-Play destruction to snipe annoying enemy backrow before making your plays.
• 1x Raigeki: Completely destroys all monsters on your opponent's side of the field.
• 1x Harpie's Feather Duster: Completely destroys all Spells and Traps on your opponent's side of the field.
The Traps (8 Cards)
• 3x Eternal Soul: The anchor of the deck. Once per turn (on either player's turn), it lets you Special Summon a Dark Magician from your Graveyard, and makes him completely immune to all card effects.
• 2x Magicians' Combination: Continuous Trap that lets you tribute a Dark Magician to negate any card effect, then instantly brings out a Dark Magician Girl from the Graveyard to replace him.
• 3x Solemn Judgment: Pays half your Life Points to completely negate absolutely any card or summon your opponent tries to play. Your ultimate safety net.
The Extra Deck (6 Cards)
• 3x Dark Magician the Dragon Knight: Fused using Dark Magician + Timaeus. While on the field, his name counts as "Dark Magician", so Eternal Soul makes him immune to all card effects. In return, he protects Eternal Soul from being destroyed, creating an unbreakable wall.
• 3x The Dark Magicians: Fused using Dark Magician + Dark Magician Girl. Lets you draw a card whenever anyone plays a Spell/Trap. If it dies, it splits open and instantly Special Summons both Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl from your Graveyard back onto the field.
The Side Deck (15 Cards)
Swap these cards in between games to counter your friend's specific strategy.
• 3x Skill Drain: Continuous Trap that negates the effects of all face-up monsters. Because Dark Magician has no card effects, your 2500 ATK beatsticks remain fully functional while your opponent's strategy grinds to a halt.
• 2x Lava Golem: Tributes 2 of your opponent's monsters to summon itself onto their side of the field. Bypasses all protections and burns them for 1000 damage every turn.
• 1x Soul Drain: Stops monster effects from activating in the Graveyard or while banished. Devastating against decks that like to recycle dead cards.
• 2x Anti-Spell Fragrance: Forces both players to Set Spells for a turn before playing them. This leaves your face-up cards intact while letting your Dark Magical Circle banish their Spells before they can ever activate them.
• 2x Dark Bribe: Counter-Trap that negates any opponent's Spell or Trap card, but lets them draw 1 card. Extra protection to stop cards like Harpie's Feather Duster from hitting your Eternal Soul.
• 1x Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell: Discard a Spell to negate an opponent's Spell. It completely forbids them from playing that specific Spell card for the rest of the duel.
• 1x Dark Hole: Wipes out all monsters on the board. Perfect for clearing the field when you are forced to go second.
• 3x Cosmic Cyclone: Pays 1000 Life Points to banish an opponent's Spell or Trap card, preventing them from destroying your backrow or triggering effects in the Graveyard.
Main Deck Strategies & Combos
1. The Core Engine: The Turn 1 Graveyard Setup
Your primary goal on Turn 1 is to get Dark Magician into the Graveyard and Eternal Soul onto the field.
• The "Chaos-Souls" Search: Reveal Illusion of Chaos in your hand → search your deck for Magicians' Souls → place 1 card from your hand back on top of your deck.
• The Dump: Activate Magicians' Souls → send Dark Magician straight from your deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon Souls to the field.
• The Trap Fetch: Activate the Field Spell Magician's Salvation → its effect automatically triggers to Set Eternal Soul directly from your deck to your field.
• The Result: You have successfully set up your infinite revival loop before your opponent even gets a turn.
2. The Banishing Disruption Loop
This is how you systematically dismantle your opponent’s board during their turn.
• Prerequisites: Dark Magical Circle face-up on the field, and a face-down Eternal Soul.
• Execution: During your opponent's Main Phase, flip Eternal Soul → Special Summon Dark Magician from your Graveyard.
• The Payoff: This triggers Dark Magical Circle, allowing you to target and permanently banish any card your opponent controls (monsters, spells, or traps) before they can use it. Because Eternal Soul can be used during either player's turn, you can repeat this every single turn.
3. The Unbreakable "Dragon Knight" Lock
This strategy secures an automatic win against most casual decks by completely protecting your backrow.
• Execution: Use Timaeus the United Dragon or Secrets of Dark Magic to fuse Dark Magician + Timaeus (or any Dragon) into Dark Magician the Dragon Knight.
• The Lock:
1. While on the field or in the Graveyard, Dragon Knight’s name is treated as "Dark Magician". Therefore, Eternal Soul makes him completely immune to all of your opponent's card effects.
2. In return, Dragon Knight’s effect states that your opponent cannot target or destroy your Spells and Traps.
3. The Result: Your opponent cannot destroy Eternal Soul, and Eternal Soul ensures your Dragon Knight cannot be touched. They must defeat a 3000 ATK monster by battle alone. If they somehow do, Eternal Soul just brings him right back next turn.
4. The Soul Servant Mega-Draw
This is your replacement for Pot of Greed, capable of drawing up to 4 cards at once.
• Execution: Once you have copies of Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, or The Dark Magicians spread across your field and Graveyard, activate Soul Servant's second effect by banishing it from your Graveyard.
• The Payoff: You instantly draw cards equal to the number of those specific names in play/Graveyard. It completely refills your hand mid-game to ensure you never run out of counter-strategies or Solemn Judgments.
Side Deck Strategies & Counters
The Side Deck is used between games to specifically counter whatever deck your friend is playing.
Scenario 1: Against Heavy Monster Decks (Blue-Eyes, Chaos, Beatdown)
If your friend plays massive monsters with high ATK or powerful on-field monster effects, you want to bring in your board-clearers and effect-negators.
• Cards to SWAP OUT (Remove from Main Deck):
• 1x Upstart Goblin (You don't want to give a beatdown deck extra Life Points)
• 2x Dark Magic Expanded (Raw battle protection is less useful when you can just negate or destroy their monsters instead)
• 2x Mystical Space Typhoon (Monster-heavy decks don't run enough backrow to justify these)
• Cards to SWAP IN (Add from Side Deck):
• 3x Skill Drain (Completely turns off their big monsters' effects, while your normal Dark Magician is untouched)
• 2x Lava Golem (Tributes their two biggest monsters away before they can even attack)
• The Tactical Goal: Reduce the duel to a pure battle of raw ATK points, where you hold all the advantages.
• How to Play It:
1. Drop the Golem: Use Lava Golem to tribute two of your opponent's most threatening boss monsters. This forces it onto their side of the field, completely bypassing any "cannot be destroyed/targeted" protections they might have.
2. Flip Skill Drain: Once your own Dark Magician or Dark Magician the Dragon Knight is on the field, flip Skill Drain.
3. The Beatdown: Because Dark Magician is a Normal Monster, he keeps his full 2500 ATK. Meanwhile, your opponent's monsters are reduced to useless vanilla bricks. Even the Lava Golem you gave them loses its effect, meaning it can no longer burn you for 1000 damage, leaving it as a sitting duck for you to banish with Dark Magical Circle.
Scenario 2: Against Spell-Heavy Decks (Fusion, Ritual, or Modern Spells)
If your friend relies heavily on Spells to summon their monsters (like Polymerization or Ritual Spells), you want to completely lock down their ability to play Spells.
• Cards to SWAP OUT (Remove from Main Deck):
• 1x Raigeki (Spell decks usually do their damage via Spells before summoning, making a slow monster-wipe less effective)
• 1x Magician of Dark Illusion (Trims the deck slightly to prioritize pure spell denial)
• 1x Upstart Goblin (Speeds up their deck by giving them breathing room; remove it to focus strictly on control)
• Cards to SWAP IN (Add from Side Deck):
• 2x Anti-Spell Fragrance (Forces them to set Spells and wait a turn, allowing your Dark Magical Circle to banish them first)
• 1x Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell (Negates a core Spell like Polymerization and bans them from using it for the rest of the game)
• The Tactical Goal: Slow the speed of their deck down to a crawl so your banishing loop can intercept their plays.
• How to Play It:
1. Set the Trap First: Activate Anti-Spell Fragrance as early as possible (ideally on your very first turn or right at the start of their Draw Phase).
2. The Banish Window: This forces your opponent to Set any Spell card face-down and wait an entire turn before they can activate it.
3. Execute: During their turn, use Eternal Soul to resurrect Dark Magician. This triggers Dark Magical Circle, allowing you to target and banish their face-down Polymerization or Ritual Spell before they ever get the chance to flip it up and use it.
4. The Ultimate Lock: If they do manage to activate a crucial Spell, chain Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell by discarding a Spell from your hand. Not only is their spell negated, but they are physically banned from activating any other copies of that specific card for the rest of the entire duel.
Scenario 3: Against Trap-Heavy or Defensive Decks (Control, Burn, Stall)
If your friend plays a lot of face-down Traps, Mirror Forces, or cards that try to destroy your Eternal Soul backrow, you need maximum protection and destruction.
• Cards to SWAP OUT (Remove from Main Deck):
• 1x Raigeki (Useless if they aren't summoning many monsters)
• 1x Apprentice Illusion Magician (You don't need the +2000 ATK boost if you aren't fighting big monsters in battle)
• 2x Magician of Dark Illusion (Too slow when you need instant backrow removal)
• Cards to SWAP IN (Add from Side Deck):
• 3x Cosmic Cyclone (Aggressively banishes their annoying Traps so they can't trigger them later)
• 1x Dark Hole (An extra safety net to clear whatever small defensive monsters they put up)
• The Tactical Goal: Blindside their defensive "Mirror Forces" or "Torrential Tributes" before they can punish your attacks.
• How to Play It:
1. Banish, Don't Destroy: When facing heavy backrow, use Cosmic Cyclone instead of Mystical Space Typhoon. Paying 1000 LP to banish a card completely prevents your opponent from retrieving it from the Graveyard or activating annoying "when this card is destroyed" effects.
2. Bait and Switch: If you suspect they have a battle trap set, do not summon your main monsters right away. Use Dark Hole first to force out any protective cards they might be holding.
3. The Safe Push: Once you have cleaned out their threats, safely summon Dark Magician and push for direct damage without the fear of running into a hidden trap.
Scenario 4: Against Graveyard-Reliant Decks (Zombies, Phoenix, Recyclers)
If your friend plays a deck where monsters constantly jump out of the Graveyard or trigger effects when they die, you want to freeze the Graveyard completely.
• Cards to SWAP OUT (Remove from Main Deck):
• 2x Dark Magic Expanded (Does nothing to stop Graveyard triggers)
• 1x Upstart Goblin (Gives them too much time to set up their Graveyard)
• Cards to SWAP IN (Add from Side Deck):
• 1x Soul Drain (Completely stops any monster effects from activating in the Graveyard)
• 2x Dark Bribe (Negates any spell or trap they try to use to revive their monsters)
• The Tactical Goal: Sever the link between their field and their Graveyard so their dead monsters stay dead.
• How to Play It:
1. Flip Soul Drain: Unlike Skill Drain (which affects the field), Soul Drain requires a 1000 LP payment to completely stop monster effects from activating in the Graveyard or while banished.
2. The Lockdown: Flip this the moment a monster hits their Graveyard. This completely paralyzes decks like Zombies or monsters that trigger "when this card is sent to the Graveyard" effects.
3. Protect the Lock: Use your Dark Bribe copies strictly to protect Soul Drain and Eternal Soul from being destroyed by cards like Harpie's Feather Duster. Your opponent gets to draw a card, but it won't matter because their entire Graveyard engine is completely frozen.
