In DUNE we got bunch of Chimera support, but does it get better after few cards from AGOV?
Answer is, yes it does. But not by a lot. Nothing changes really if you play good version of it (Branded), except that you play the new Illusion card.
Let's go over the new support first. Then we will go over the deck itself (it's bonuses and weaknesses, other options and a combo for you).
Berfomet the Phantom Beast Dark Ruler is a new fusion monster. It is a card that I am not playing as I don't find it very useful.
The effect of this card is: "This card's name becomes "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast" while on the field or in the GY. You can only use each of the following effects of "Berfomet the Phantom Beast Dark Ruler" once per turn. If this card is Fusion Summoned: You can send 1 Beast, Fiend, or Illusion monster from your Deck to the GY. During your opponent's turn (Quick Effect): You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 of your banished Beast, Fiend, or Illusion monsters, except "Berfomet the Phantom Beast Dark Ruler"; Special Summon it." and it can be summoned with 2 Beast, Fiend, and/or Illusion monsters with different Types.
There are different issues with this card. First issue is summon requirements. You are never summoning this card, never. Second issue is it not beeing neither DARK or LIGHT attribute, so you cannot send it to the gy with the effect of Granguignol the Dusk Dragon. This makes the card very bad and saddly, almost completly unplayable in a Branded build, but pure Chimera can play this card.
Tao the Great Chanter is new Illusion monster. While new fusion didn't make it in the deck, this card did.
The effect of this card is: "If this card battles a monster, neither can be destroyed by that battle. If this card is sent to the GY: You can target 1 Illusion monster in your GY, except "Tao the Great Chanter"; Special Summon it in Defense Position, also you cannot Special Summon monsters from the GY for the rest of this turn, except Illusion monsters. You can only use this effect of "Tao the Great Chanter" once per turn."
Now this is a good enough card to be played at 1 in the deck. Now you are able to summon your Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast. This is more of a second going card idea and you don't have to play it if you don't think it's needed. Also, if you are able to get Mirror Sworknight to the gy with Branded Fusion, you can now revive it and go through your Chimera combo with ease.
Now, let's go over stuff about the deck.
Bonuses:
Deck is very consistent and has really good first going boards.
Can break stronger boards.
You don't have to use space on board breakers because they are alredy in the deck. Lightning Storm, Dark Ruler etc. are not needed in main board.
Deck can go through Ash + Imperm + Nibiru and still have something on the board.
Constant follow is here because of Cartesia.
Deck is not normal summon relient.
Deck has bunch of combo starters to several different combos, so it's not really obvious when your opponent should stop you.
Shifter doesn't kill the deck. This is very important when playing against Kashtira.
Very strong grind game.
Has space for hand traps, despite that engine is really big.
Weaknesses:
Dimensional Barrier really hurts you.
There are bricks (Chanter, Berfomet)
So there aren't many weaknesses to the deck, making it very good of course.
Other options:
Gold Sarcophagus - It can banish Tri-Brigade Mercourier and Despian Tragedy, which triggers their effects.
Gimmick Puppet Knightmare - Puppet lock is incredibly strong and easy to do. Basicly, what you want to do is send Puppet of Branded Fusion and then with Albion the Sanctifire Dragon give it to your opponent so that Puppet triggers on their field, locking them into Gimmick Puppets.
Branded Banishment - It's searchable Super Polymerization against some decks.
Despian Quareritis
Ad Libitum of Despia
Yes, for some of these I don't have explanation why you would play them, but I saw people playing them, allthough I don't understand why they do. Usually, I put cards in other options among the cards either I have tried or I saw people play.
Now for the combo:
You need Foolish Burial + Branded Fusion
-Activate Branded Fusion sending Mirror Swordknight and Falleon of Albaz to the graveyard to Fusion Summon Albion the Branded Dragon which will activate it's effect allowing you to banish it and Fallen of Albaz from your graveyard to Fusion Summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon.
-Now use Foolish Burial sending Tao the Great Chanter from your deck to your graveyard and then using it's effect to Special Summon Mirror Swordknight from your graveyard.
-Use Mirror Swordknight's effect to Special Summon Big-Winged Berfomet, using it's effect to add to your hand from your deck Chimera Fusion and Gazelle the King of Mythical Claws.
-Activate Chimera Fusion using Gazelle and Berfomet to Fusion Summon Chimera the King of Phantom Beasts which will then trigger Berfomet as chain link 1 targeting Tao the Great Chanter, Gazelle as chain link 2 and Chimera as chain link 3, which will then add to your hand Cornfield Coatl and Special Summon Chanter from your graveyard.
-For last, use the effect of Chimera Fusion to add itself back to your hand and then set it.
-In the end phase, resolve the effect of Chimera, sending a card from opponent's hand to the graveyard.
What this board does is leave you with 4 cards in hand, you can always use Chimera Fusion to summon Guardian Chimera to pop 2 and draw a card or pop 1 and draw 2 cards (depending on your hand and what you need to do), Mirrorjade can banish a monster your opponent controls, also sending another Albion (follow up) or Granguignol the Dusk Dragon (another interuption) and Mirror Swordknight is another monster negate. That is 3 interuptions with 2 cards + follow up + you can do more depending on your hand.
Overall, I like the deck. New support did help the deck a little bit which is always a bonus. While I do think that Branded Bystial is better, I do think that this deck is also very powerful and is pretty underrated.
