I present to you all my Anti-meta Magical musketeers!!
Some history
Back in 2017, Spirit warriors was announced with three new archetypes and everyone went nuts with these cards, especially with Magical musketeers. Some, yet, were considering that it would be the next tier 0, in pair with Zoodiac or Spyral because of the power of these cards. However the time has passed and the “new” tier 0 never saw a competitive success in any YCS or UDS until the release of Battle of legends: Hero revenge in 2019, that gives birth to link-1 monster “Magical musketeer Max”, a +5 card advantage with the right set up. After that release, Magical musketeer becomes a serious contender on the rogue landscape, acting like a true anti-meta deck in pair with Guru control or Zombies.
How it works?
“Magical musketeer” is a series of light fiend monsters that works with columns: if a spell/trap card is activated in the same column of that monster, it can activate its own effect. But its primary effect is to enable (in an inherent effect) the ability to use any “Magical musket” from your hand at any time, at any turn regards that are a spell ou a trap card.
It is so simple but this fact transforms this deck into a hand trap deck powerhouse, where your opponent will never know what to expect as long as your hand maintains itself full of cards.
How to play?
This deck is primarily a control deck that has the first object to break your opponent's tempo, with surgical interaction that shuts down his/her play completely. For a first turn you have to normal summon a Magical musketeer monster, ideal Magical musketeer Caspar or Magical musketeer Starfire, that can bring a Spell/trap card or summon another Magical musketeer wherever you want, respectively. If you are facing a Pendulum deck, for example, you can summon it on the edge to capitalize by the active effect of opponent scales or summon on the extra monster zone to catch any unaware duelist.
If you didn’t draw any of the Magical musketeer said above, no worries my reader cause Magical musketeer Kidbrave is another great option to summon, It provides a good effect draw by discarding Magical musket card. This can ultimately fix your hand or draw any extender, like Pot of Desires or Ties of Brethren helping with even more draws or with the swarmablity of the deck.
Ties of Brethren is an interesting card in this cek because you can go in so many lines of play . For example you have draw just one Magical musketeer Kidbrave, with Ties of Brethren you can summon Magical musketeer Doc and Magical musketeer Caspar, and even draw 2 card by the effect of Magical musketeer Kidbrave, going for the end of the turn with a Number 75: Bamboozling Gossip Shadow for some negate in the next turn. The same goes to a level 4 Magical musketeer, ending with Bagooska .
In case you start a second turn, fear not my reader, I got your back. I present to you Magical musketeer MAX, a link-1 this card has an effect that you can summon Magical musketeer monster up the number of spell/trap card that your opponent control OR and to your hand Magical musket spell/trap cards up the number of monster that your opponent controls. You can bait, for example an Ash Blossom with Magical musketeer Kidbrave or Magical musketeer Caspar and go after that on Magical musketeer Max and nail it!
And what will we add? The powerful and destructive firearms in Yu-gi-oh! card game. The trap card Magical musket - desperado pops any card face up on the field, a raigeki break from your hand. Magical musket - Cross-Domination is your Effect veiler that negates any monster effect and makes its atk 0. Magical musket - Dancing needles is a D. D. Crow in anabolic, awesome to deal with a problematic GY. Magical musket - Last Standing is our solemn Judgement, negating any spell/trap on site. Magical musket - Crooked Cro can put even more bodies on the field (even monsters like Magical musketeer Mastermind Zakiel) and shut down a specific main monster zone of your opponent. Magical musket - Fiendish deal and Magical musket - Steady hand are for specific situations, protection or bait an interaction.
Honest works well with this deck as well as Solemn Judgement. Ash blossom and Ghost belle is the go choice in this deck too.
Spice techs
Lyna the Light Charmer, Lustrous: Steal any light monster from you opponent GY ( like an Eldlich), will make him/her curse you in the language of angels.
Akashic Magician: my favorite link monster, bounce anything on site.
Topologic Zeroboros + I:p Masquerena: a devilish prank hard to deal with, specially in a prank-kids mash up
Number 39: Utopia Double: Otk enable.
Side deck: Tri-brigade and Drytron full hate turbo mode.
There is a downside?
Unfortunately there is a great flaw in this deck: Our Magical musketeer monsters are not that biffier. Take for instance Magical musketeer Wild, our least useful main deck monster, he has 1700 ATK and he is the most powerful monster alongside Magical musketeer Mastermind Zekiel, that are not so easily to put on the field because require tribute a monster or a Magical musket - Crooked Crow. Monsters that have 2500 atk or higher are difficult to deal with this deck , and untargetable like Red-eyes Dragoon man… are almost impossible to destroy, because you can’t use cards like Desperado or Cross-domination, and honest can be easily negated.
Another Great flaw is the firearms itself. Desperado, Cross-domination, last standand alikes can only be activated if you have a Magical musketeer monster on the field, if you have any this card becomes another brick on the wall, doing nothing for the rest of the game cause a lost game for example.
