I play a draft tournament locals for the 25 Anniversary Playmat.
You got 1 Boosterpack of LOB, MRD, SRL, PSV and IOC. A Deck has to have at minimum 20 cards, there was no Banlist and the Rules were Masterrule1 [Goat], 5 Cards in the startinghand and first turn player also draws and 4000 Lifepoints.
(Since i cant make a deck that is smaller than 40 cards and in my deck are cards that are not out in speed duel so i filled in 19 other cards which are the Destiny Board and Necrofear)
My pulls were perfect for a stall burn deck with multiple win cons. One important part of this tournament was that a stall deck was way stronger than in a draft tournament with the 25th Legendery Collection, where u got access to red eyes, blue eyes and dark magician. Those three are monsters u cant out in this draft format, since removal is a rare or a super rare in those sets.
At first i thought my pulls aren't that great i opend:
LOB: only equip spells and the fieldspells are good and i didnt pull a fissure in the rare slot so i took 2 cards
MRD: was better i pulled a MoF for spell recoursion if i pull better spells. But the Monsterlineup was amazing 7coloured fish and 2 defensive walls
SRL: pulled a ritual monster without the spellcard to summon it and the card Toll which was with my defense monsters the first step to a winning strategy, Burn your opponent to Death or Deckout.
PSV: Amazing pulls with the Burning Land and the 4 star wall of island turtle but sill my cardpool for a 20 card deck looked meek
IOC: The literally best Set to pull for a draft tournament if your pulls are terrible there u mostly lose. In this tournament there were 2-3 players that pulled a stealth bird which can win you the game with 1 or 2 successfull activations. My pulls were Compulsory Evacuation Device an incredible out for tribute monsters, the red ninja my only trap out, 2 more beaters, Bowiganian a third burn card that just needs to survive till the next standby phase and my final wincon: Just a big Beatstick in Chaos Necromancer if i can get into the grindgame and i didnt get my tribute or the enemy has a deck that has more than 20 cards i needed him and got this card mostly in my last few turn where it can be from 2400 - 3000 ATK and more with the equip spell.
So my Deck was 14 Monsters, 5 Spells and 2 Traps.
So the draft was finished but i still fought i didnt have much of a winning chance since the last draft tournament with the legendary collection i lost 2 games out of 3. So the first match began vs a deck which was beatdown with goblin attackforce and begone knave and lots of 1700 ATK monsters. Game 2 i lost top self burn, game 1 and 3 were close grind games which i won the first with 50 lifepoints and the third with 150. Burning land was an MVP.
The second Match was a good grind lost the first game, drew terrible and the opponent just overrun me with high attack monsters and, second game was a close grind with burning land i got damage in early then he tribute set the labyrinth wall and a 3k booty is way to much to out. Third one was incredible close until it wasnt. his deck was backrow heavy he pulled good things out of PSV he tributed a monster i put it in defense with darkness approches discard my burning land with the after thought in 2 turns i get it back cause i have MoF in hand the he flips light of intervention and yeah i stalled with defense monsters till i got my chaos necromancer up to 3300ATK to overrun his wall and next turn for game.
Two close wins and now onto the third match, it was vs on of the better players and the judge from my locals, first game i won with a mix of beatdown and burning land. Second game i tried to stall with 2 set monsters then he flipped stealth bird and next turn tributed it for a 2200ATK monster and his advantage snowballed from there onwards. Third game was a close one, first attack of my 7coloured fish was vs his stealth bird i burned his Lifepoints to zero and i won with 1000 remaining, he had to attack my Bowiganian under Toll and lost with this attack toll more life points than i did so burning land finished him off.
Ok now onto the last and final game of the tournament there were only 2 players with a 3-0 record left out of 18 people. I lost the first game, my starting hand was terrible and he flipped stealth bird and beat me with 2k damage in with 2 monsters Game one lasted 4 turns.
Ok so now i lost my first game of a match usally i only lost the second game, so backs angainst the wall and now onto the second game. This was a slog of a grind i got the advantage with my Giga Gagagigo had more life points than him and Burning land and Toll in hand i attacked his face down monster and it was Kisetai and now he gets 1250 hp back every stand by phase also i needed to set a monster every turn cause he also played a card where we both needed to tribute a monster and he recycled it with MoC in the end i won cause my Chaos Necromancer was a 3,3K Beatstick and i outgrinded his monsters and timesealed him so i booked my own Giga Gagagigo and beat him in the next 2 turns with Chaos Necromancer it was really close i only had 1 card in deck remaining.
The third game was a slaughter i opend full combo with Neobug,an equip spell , burning land high tide and timeseal and as first draw i got evacuation device. He went first set on monster face down and passed. I normal summoned Neo bug attacked over it and set my 2 trap cards. He activated umi normal summoned a hide tide and i flipped my evacuation device and now his turn was done, he set 1 card facedown as backrow and passed. In his end phase i activated my timeseal and the draw for turn. I normal summoned my high tide played burning land, which was a missplay should have played it in main phase 2 and went in for 1,8k and 1,65k damage. After my opening he managed to survive 1 more turn, with discards he got out one chaos sorc but with 600 Lifepoints remaining and a toll and burning land on field he conceded. This was also a quick game 5-6 turns.
So this was my Tournament Journey to the 25th Anniversary Playmat, in retrospective my pulls were amazing and it took me until my second match was over that i realized that i have the best deck in the room aslong i can keep my opponent of of big tribute summons or a fast beat down.
I couldnt believe that i won now the playmat. It was an Amazing Tournament and a lot of fun.
