Deck Highlights

Tenyi Swordsoul

Michael Patou - Tenyi Swordsoul

Michael Patou won the EU Remote Duel YCS playing Tenyi Swordsoul.

For this event, Michael ran a relatively standard Tenyi Swordsoul list; featuring many of the optimizations made since the deck's debut. This list ran the standard Swordsoul ratios along with the improved Tenyi package using Heavenly Dragon Circle and Tenyi Spirit - Shthana. This combo adds consistency and also helps play through common disruption such as Infinite Impermanence and Effect Veiler. Additionally, Imperial Order is also featured in the Main Deck for this list. Order is a trap that's usually seen in the Side Deck since it can be dead going 2nd. However, if you see it going 1st, it can shut down entire lines of both play and counter-play.

Michael also chose to play a combined 18 hand traps in his Main and Side deck. This prevents combo decks from building a board which is good since Swordsoul isn't always able to break them. Furthermore, the Side Deck also features 3 copies of Dimensional Barrier. Dimensional Barrier has recently been seeing more play as a counter to Lyrilusc variants, Dogmatika variants and Swordsoul.

Destiny HERO Beetrooper

Herman Hansson - Destiny HERO Beetrooper

Herman Hansson placed 2nd at the EU Remote Duel YCS playing Destiny HERO Beetrooper.

Beetrooper, or Insect Toolbox is a rogue deck that focuses on swarming the board with a variety of Insect monsters. It's also a deck that can play a high hand trap count since it doesn't need many cards to start it's play. One of the main reasons for this is Resonance Insect. Resonance Insect is a non-OPT searcher that helps you access both extenders and utility cards if it's sent to the GY. It can also mill an Insect from your deck if it's banished. This works great with Doom Dozer since you can search it with Resonance and then banish Resonance for its summon; triggering Resonance's 2nd effect. After this, the combo and ending board is relative to how you choose to build the deck.

This deck is also good at utilizing Retaliating "C". Retaliating "C" is a hand trap that can summon itself when your opponent activates a Spell which includes an effect to special summon a monster. It also banishes any card sent to the GY if you summon it this way. This makes it powerful against Fusion Destiny and a variety of decks that use Spell Cards to summon monsters such as Drytron, Lyrilusc, and Invoked. It's worth noting that Retaliating "C"'s 2nd effect can also search for Resonance Insect.

Another reason for the deck's success is its ability to create plays out of nowhere. Since it's so easy to access Insects through just a single card, it's also easy to OTK your opponent in many different positions. This makes Beetrooper a dangerous opponent as they not only have good follow-up but can also turn the game around in what seems to be poor positions.

Destiny HERO Invoked Dogmatika

Luke Parkes - Destiny HERO Invoked Dogmatika

Luke Parkes placed 3rd at the EU Remote Duel YCS playing Destiny HERO Invoked Dogmatika.

For this event, Luke chose to run a fairly standard list featuring Mystic Mine in the Main Deck. Mystic Mine is one of the most infamous cards in modern Yu-Gi-Oh and can be searched using Terraforming. Mine is strong because it's an auto-win in some games and lets you set the pace in others. This lets you control the tempo using Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer to simplify the game-state until you're ready to destroy your own Mine. This list also only plays 1 copy of Invocation which is normally a 2-of. Although this does risk Invocation being negated and stuck in the GY, it can still be shuffled back using PSY-Framelord Omega's effect.

Luke also chose to play Naelshaddoll Ariel in the Side Deck as a way to deal with DPE. This is done through Dogmatika Punishment's effect to mill El Shaddoll Apkallone which can then mill Ariel. This let's you banish DPE along with the rest of the Destiny HEROs if you choose too. Luke also said in his deck profile that the PSY-Framegear package was very strong and he'd consider Main Decking it in the future. Since Gamma also destroys the monster it negates, it can put the opponent in an awkward spot where they'd need a specific card or play in a awkward way to continue.

Conclusion

Swordsoul continues to be the top contender this meta winning the EU Remote Duel YCS and having the most representatives in Top 32. Lyrilusc Tri-Brigade is the most represented deck this tournament; having 102 representatives out of the 718 players.

Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer is very popular (as expected). Out of the 718 players, 223 ran DPE. This is consistent with the results of the previous weeks; having around 30% of all players running DPE.

Artifact Lancea is starting to see more play as a powerful card against Invoked variants and Tri-Brigade. It's also effective against many rogue decks and has some mild effectiveness against the rest of the meta.
