Monstrous Revenge – Competitive Card Guide Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge is a side booster pack that releases on June 23, 2023 that brings some much needed reprints.

Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge is a side booster pack that releases on June 23, 2023. Its theme focuses on dark zombies and reptiles, but its competitive aspects are almost solely based in already existing decks.

Cyberse and Synchro Extenders

Cyberse and Synchro decks are known for their combo-heavy playstyle, but sometimes they can be bottlenecked if an opponent interrupts it from the beginning. That's why Assault Synchron and Rokket Coder may serve well as extenders, as they do not require much aside from other material to perform an Extra Deck summon. Link Decoder is as Link-1 extender for Cyberse, which are often the key to making a much more consistent deck.

Rogue Upgrades

Courageous Crimson Chevalier Bradamante is a curious addition to the Infernoble Knight deck, acting more like a Spell card than a Monster. Its ability to search any Equip spell - including the tutor card "Infernoble Arms - Durendal" - bolsters the decks consistency and power. Meanwhile, Golden Rule continues the trend of Crystal Beast Spell and Trap cards that make the deck playable despite the lack of quality of those monsters by effectively pulling out two monsters out of thin air.

Dark, Light, and...?

Duality and Sky Striker Ace - Azalea are generic Dark and Light deck support. Duality calls up the image of a narrower but higher tempo Small World, capable of even summoning monsters from the Extra Deck. However, its power also lies in being a Quick-Play Spell, letting on-field monsters dodge targeted effects. Its secondary effect even aids in the grind game. Azalea, despite being a Sky Striker monster, will likely find itself in any deck that can summon it. Most decks already play Knightmare Phoenix at minimum, so a more flexible version that does not require a discard will likely become a staple. Its second effect also features a non-targeting destruction effect for monsters!

Straying away from the chaos theme is Cattycorn. While it may be difficult to Special Summon Cattycorn in any existing decks, it may find itself in decks that solely rely on Field Spells in the future. Field Spells have proven to be pivotal combo pieces recently, so don't be surprised if combos find a way to fit in Cattycorn.

Hey, Punk!

Notably, almost the entire P.U.N.K. deck has been reprinted in Monstrous Revenge. As a result, even Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune has found itself at $10 as of the time of writing.

Price-Reducing Reprints

While the Adventure engine has lost much of its popularity, its Ultra Rare pieces never seemed to dip much below $20 each. In this set, both Rite of Aramesir and Water Enchantress of the Temple are being reprinted, leaving only Fateful Adventure behind. Likewise, Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder and I:P Masquerena have been staples since their release, refusing to ever budge from over being $10. Will being reprinted multiple times finally let the Extra Deck staples settle at ultra-low prices?

Accessibility Reprints

Aside from Madolche Queen Tiaramisu, many of the reprints of this set were not expensive. However, cards like SPYRAL Quik-Fix and Volcanic Shell may have increase in price due to restricted list updates or future support respectively due to lack of stock. Monstrous Revenge fixes these issues proactively.

For the Collectors

Finally, certain reprints only serve to bling out collector's decks. Welcome Labrynth thankfully receives a Secret Rare reprint as well, but The Bystial Lubellion and Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle are printed exclusively in Quarter Century Secret Rare, likely to garner $150+ price tags as they stabilize.

A Monstrous Success for Competitive Players

While Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge somewhat fails to power up zombie and reptile decks to competitive standards, it lowers the prices of staples and introduces new ones. And for high rarity collectors, Konami has pinpointed popular competitive cards to make shine.
