Introduction

Predaplants are a fusion-based archetype that debuted in ARC-V as an antagonistic force. Resembling carnivorous plants and questionable flora merged with animals, the Predaplants excel at fusion summoning while utilizing both sides of the field as material. Furthermore, plants disperse Predator counters, which presents several disadvantages to the opposing applied monsters. Aside from forcefully fusing monsters everywhere on the field, these vegetation are usually great at farming fusion-related resources, or placing themselves on the field for Starving Venom Fusion Dragon's material conditions. Otherwise, the greater game plan is to overwhelm your opponents with these tongue-twisting titles and unnecessary flora facts. As well as to roleplay the character most associated with this, Yuri with his cruel ruthlessness.

Quite recently, Predaplant has received several support cards from the latest main set, Dimension Force. Like every legacy support, Predaplant powers have been enhanced greatly, and I would very mulch like to share their budding efforts with you!

POV: You obliterate your opponents with Predaplants

Garden of Predators

Even before receiving support, these carnivorous plants are plenty deadly enough. As a fusion-based archetype, this deck possess natural resources to promote fusion summoning strategy. Orphrys Scorpio summoning Darlingtonia Cobra is the archetype's most notorious combo, eventually limiting the former to prevent this consistency. And now with additional support, I am confident this deck can uproot other decks competently. Check out these new buds!

Predaplant Byblisp

Predaplant Byblisp

Predaplant Byblisp
Plant/Effect
Level 1 ATK/ 0 DEF/ 1900

  • If this card is sent to the GY: You can add 1 "Predaplant" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Predaplant Byblisp".
  • If a monster with a Predator Counter is on the field: You can Special Summon this card from your GY, but banish it when it leaves the field.
  • You can only use each effect of "Predaplant Byblisp" once per turn.

Byblisp is based on the carnivorous Byblis Filifolia, Wasp, and your mouth when you jumble up its name. This is the greatest tutor for the deck, easily fetching any Predaplant from your deck. It also serves as additional body when it senses Predator Counters, serving as the best fertilizer this archetype can use.

Predaplant Bufollicula and Triantis

Predaplant Bufollicula

Predaplant Bufollicula
Plant/Pendulum/Effect
Level 1 ATK/ 0 DEF/ 0
Scale 0/0

Pendulum Effect

  • During your Main Phase: You can Fusion Summon 1 DARK Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or field as Fusion Material.
  • You can only use this effect of "Predaplant Bufollicula" once per turn.

Monster Effect

  • If this card is used as material for a Fusion Summon, and sent to the GY or added to the Extra Deck face-up: You can add 1 face-up DARK Pendulum Monster from your Extra Deck to your hand, except "Predaplant Bufollicula".
  • You can only use this effect of "Predaplant Bufollicula" once per turn.
Predaplant Triantis

Predaplant Triantis
Plant/Pendulum/Effect
Level 8 ATK/ 2400 DEF/ 1000
Scale 8/8

Pendulum Effect

  • You can use cards in your Pendulum Zones as material to Fusion Summon a DARK Fusion Monster, as if they were monsters on the field.

Monster Effect

  • If this card is used as material for a Fusion Summon, and sent to the GY or added to the Extra Deck face-up: You can place 1 Predator Counter on a number of monsters on the field, up to the number of monsters you control, and if you do, any of those monsters that are Level 2 or higher become Level 1 as long as they have a Predator Counter.

These two new additions are the pendulum branches of Predaplant. Although pendulum summoning is completely unnecessary in the Predaplant strategy, these two shrubs are able to utilize the benefits of having a pendulum effect to augment the fusion strategy. Bufollicula is a makeshift fusion spell, and Triantis transforms your scales into makeshift board presence. Together, it is easier to fulfill and summon particular fusion monsters like Starving Venom Fusion Dragon and Predaplant Triphyoverutum, or fulfill Predaplant Fusion's complicated conditions.

Predaplant Ambulomelioides

Predaplant Ambulomelioides

Predaplant Ambulomelioides
Plant/Fusion/Effect
Level 5 ATK/ 1000 DEF/ 2500
2 "Predaplant" monsters

  • If this card is Fusion Summoned: You can add 1 "Predaplant" monster or 1 "Predap" Spell/Trap from your Deck, GY, or face-up Extra Deck to your hand.
  • You can target 1 monster your opponent controls with a Predator Counter or 1 monster you control; Tribute it, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "Predaplant" monster from your Deck.
  • You can only use each effect of "Predaplant Ambulomelioides" once per turn.

Ambulomelioides is one of the hardest names to articulate. It serves as an initial bridge towards developing Predaplant resources for the game. This monster can be easily summoned with Instant Fusion, and can summon key monsters like Ophrys Scorpio and Chlamydosundew. Many Predaplant combo lines will definitely involve the summoning of this card.

Starving Venom Predator Fusion Dragon

Starving Venom Predator Fusion Dragon

Starving Venom Predator Fusion Dragon
Dragon/Fusion/Effect
Level 10 ATK/ 3600 DEF/ 2500
1 DARK Fusion Monster + 1 Fusion Monster

  • (This card is always treated as a "Predaplant" card.)
  • Once per turn, when a card or effect is activated (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 monster with a Predator Counter on either field, and if you do, negate the activation.
  • If this Fusion Summoned card you control is sent to your GY by an opponent's card: You can target 1 DARK monster in your GY; Special Summon it.
  • You can only use this effect of "Starving Venom Predator Fusion Dragon" once per turn.

Starving Venom Predator Fusion Dragon is the ultimate conclusion of the Predaplant path. Requiring high quality fusion materials, this vicious vegetation will negate anything with a simple cost of an infected monster. Otherwise, it summons another monster upon its demise. An impressive boss monster to display for sure.

With these impressive additions to your garden, are these Predaplants hungry enough for victory? Let's put their petals to the metal, and find out!

Sample Predaplant Albaz

This is my favorite take on Predaplants so far. The ability to mill specific cards with Branded Fusion like Staysailor Romarin or Predaplant Byblisp allows the player to tap into resources quickly. With Byblisp, Sarraceniant, Ambulomelioides, Predapractice and more, this archetype is able to touch every card over the course of a single turn, and more! This is important to develop the deck's ace monster, Predaplant Dragostapelia. Along with other strong fusion monsters like Triphyoverutum and Starving Venom can be fusion summoned using your opponent's monsters. This tactic removes opposing monsters for your strong Fusion monsters. Sounds pretty unfair, right? Any monster your opponent summons could always serve as nutrients for your ravenous plants.

Outside of Predaplant specific things, this archetype is welcome to additional Plant support like Lonefire Blossom and Therion "Lily" Borea. And as a fusion deck, this archetype naturally welcomes additional fusion toolbox support, such as Shaddoll cards or Frightfur Patchwork.

The general idea is to summon Predaplant Ambulomelioides to add Predaplanning first, or retrieve both Predaplant Bufollicula and Triantis to perform fusion summons. Chlamydosundew is your greatest summon, consuming opposing monsters to fuel yet another fusion summon. Your eventual board should always include Dragostapelia, and a quick effect to fuse your opponent's cards away. Here are some combo lines for your viewing.

Of course, there are many more combo videos on Youtube, and these are just the tip of everything. My point is, this deck has evolved enough to deal with competition, and no longer relies on consuming opposing monsters to cultivate their own threats.

Pruning the Plants

Although I may have hyped this deck up a bit, this deck by no means is the best deck. However, it is still worth knowing the weakest parts of this deck. As Predaplants require a lot of investment into building their boards, focus on either breaking their eventual board, or disrupting their fusion summons. Both actions will severely cripple the Predaplant player from advancing too much, and end on subpar boards. An aggressive strategy will definitely overwhelm the slow nature of these botanical beasts. As long as you rid your board of Predator Counters, Predaplants can only perform so much against you.

My Topiary and Conclusion

I am fully aware of the popularity of fusion summoning, aesthetic amalgamations of agricultural chimeras and especially the appeal of Yuri. Cruelty, arrogance and all. In conclusion, Predaplants are quite unique in their design, and the current support pool has shifted it from a Super Polymerization knockoff into something of its own personal style. Another huge win for Plant lovers! Although Predaplants may not be the strongest deck yet, it definitely can stand its ground against the meta, and in a fun and interactive way.

So go out there, and start planting those seeds of devastation!
