Ice barrier has recently gotten a large amount of support in Structure Deck: Freezing Chains. Although the set is disappointing when it comes to reprints, the new Ice Barrier support has made the deck playable. Thanks to generic water support, there are many ways to play the deck and several engines you can splash in. Some of the better ones include White, Crystron, Marincess, Deepsea, Fish, Atlantean, and Frogs. A small frog engine allows the deck to make Toadally Awesome. I have included other options in the side deck.
The main game plan for this build going 1st is to end on a board of 1 or 2 toads as omni negation, as well as Halqifibrax with some non-tuner monsters. We are running several tuner Synchros as targets for Halqifibrax that will allow you to summon a variety of fat Synchros on your opponent’s turn depending on the matchup. This board is even better if you open with Kairyu-Shin, which turn torrential tribute into a Raigeki on your opponent’s turn or provide protection to disruption. Going 2nd is similar except you skip the Halqifibrax part and go straight into the Synchros. Some of you best boss monster options include pretty much all the ice barrier synchros, all the Crystron Synchros, Marincess Great Bubble Reef (Best water link 4 in the game!), and Adamancipator Risen – Dragite. This deck isn’t the strongest going 1st but does have a very good follow up due to all the GY effects and stuff you’ll be doing on your opponent’s turn
Card by Card
Revealer of the Ice Barrier-Discard any dead card to summon either Cryomancer (If you want 2 toads) or Hexa, which can send Zuijin to the GY.
Swap Frog-Makes toad by sending Ronintoadin or Dupe Frog.
Aqua Spirit-Not HOPT lvl 4 that is great for bot XYZ and Synchro plays
General Wayne of the Ice Barrier-Only good on turn, which is why we are only running 2. High level makes him excellent for Synchro summons. Typically searches Medallion of the Ice Barrier as it Is a not once per turn ROTA for the entire deck.
Zuijin of the Ice Barrier-Free special summon from GY that is usually sent there by Hexa.
Prior of the Ice Barrier-Free special summon, as well as another way to make Toadally awesome. The on-field effect is usually used to summon a tuner from GY.
Speaker for the Ice Barriers-Same as Aqua Spirit except it also summons a token when banished from GY, which is normally used as material for Halqifibrax.
Medallion of the Ice Barrier-Searches missing combo pieces.
Freezing Chains of the Ice Barrier-Summons back Ice barriers, usually one of the tuners.
Monster Reborn-Basically better Freezing Chains, which is why we are not running 3.
Hexa of the Ice Barrier-Revealer target that sends Zuijin.
Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier-Reveal target used to summon Toad.
Fishborg-Halqifibrax target that revives itself.
Fury of Kairyu-Shin and Torrential Tribute-Nukes opponent’s board while saving your own.
Winds over the Ice Barrier-Usually used to get to Revealer if you didn’t draw it and has a fantastic GY effect during follow-up.
2.5 Card Combo
Revealer, something to discard, and Speaker
You normal Revealer, summon Speaker, discard the random card, and summon Hexa, then use its effect to send Prior, then use Speaker and Revealer for Bahamut. Bahamut summons toad by detaching speaker. Banish Speaker for a Token and use the token and Bahamut for Anemone. Anemone revives the Prior, then link Anemone and Hexa into Halq, which summons Cryomancer. You overlay Crymancer and Prior into 2nd Toadally.
Very strong end board that can also include a synchro on your opponent’s turn if you draw more extenders. Halqifibrax usually goes into Formula or Locusts
2nd 2.5 Card Combo
Revealer, something to discard, and Speaker
You normal Revealer, summon Speaker, discard the random card, and summon Hexa, then use its effect to send Zuijin, then use Speaker and Revealer for Bahamut. Bahamut summons toad by detaching speaker. Banish Speaker for a Token and use the token and Hexa for Halq. Halq summons Fisborg and then you use Bahamut and fishborg to make Anemone. Fishborg revives itself and Anemone revives anything. Finally link evrything other than Toad and Halqifibrax for Great Bubble Reef.
Weaker combo you want to do if you have a torrential set. Can allow you to draw 2 cards on your opponent’s turn by summoning Formula or discard 1 by summoning Locusts. Your Reef draws the 2nd card.
3 Card Combo
Cryomancer, Revealer, Speaker
You normal Revealer, summon Speaker, discard the Cryo, and summon Hexa, then use its effect to send Prior, then use Speaker and Revealer for Bahamut. Bahamut summons toad by detaching speaker. Banish Speaker for a Token and use the token and Hexa for Halq. Halq summons Fisborg and then you use Toad and fishborg to make Anemone. Use Toad eff to add back Prior. Anemone brings back Cryo. Use Cryo and Prior to make 2nd Toad. Bring back Fishborg with its eff and use it with everything other than Toad and Halq to make Reef.
Fairly similar to combo 2, except no your toad can summon on your opponent’s turn, giving you synchro material. You can use Halq to summon shooting Riser and go into a Synchro of your choice.
Atlantaen-3x Deep Sea Diva, 3x Dragoons, 1x Atlantean Prince, 1x Lappis Dragon, 1x Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord. Allows gaining advantage of oof your discards, but I think it hurts the consistency of the deck too much. This is great in thjje hand loop version along with Appointer of the Red Lotus.
Deep Sea Stuff: Unsure of the ratios, however Minstrel and the Synchro are good.
Gagigobyte-1x Awakening of the Possessed – Gagigobyte, 1x Spirtual Water Art – Aoi. Combined with Locusts, this can make you opponent lose a major number of key cards, but you must run 1 garnet.
Crystron-1x Crystron Citree, 1x Powered Inzektron, 1x Crystron Quariongandrax. Allows you to make even chunkier Synchros on your opponent’s turn but forces you to play and dead card. You will also want to take out Fishborg if you play Citree.
There are many more options, but these are the most viable ones in my opinion.
Overall, I am actually a big fan of this structure deck and believe Ice Barrier will continue to get better for many years due to generic water support. Thank you all for 50k views after only a few months on this site! Please leave suggestions and changes in comments.
