Edison Format | 2 | Diva HERO
Deck Primer
If you go back and check out the decks that were played at SJC Edison in April 2010 you'll find some discrepancies. The two "best" decks of the Edison format are arguably Diva HERO and Vayu Turbo, yet neither of them was played back in April 2010. The decks played back then weren't bad. Many of them, like Jeff Jones' 1st place Dandywarrior Quickdraw, are still viable today. However, after spending so much time with a specific format people found new decks and strategies. One of them is Diva HERO.
Strategy
Diva HERO decks constantly try to put pressure on your opponent, thanks to almost every card generating advantage. You have Elemental HERO Stratos that can search you another monster to keep the card advantage going. Destiny HERO - Malicious not only provides a body for free but makes summoning Stardust Dragon laughably easy.
Pressuring your opponent with Synchros and impactful main deck monsters like Caius the Shadow Monarch or Dark Armed Dragon is pretty good on its own but what makes this deck shine is it's capability to completely abuse one of the only few generic HERO Fusion monsters that were released back in 2010: Elemental HERO Absolute Zero. This card is very difficult to out and you can potentially summon more than one a turn.
With every card generating you advantage and keeping on the pressure you'll often find yourself in an advantageous game state during which you can then push for lethal with Absolute Zero, Stardust Dragon, DAD, etc.
Cards and Engines
For the HERO half of the deck you're obviously on the aforementioned Stratos and two Malicious. Destiny HERO - Diamond Dude, who despite its low ATK stat and inconsistent effect still proves to be quite threatening since its effect can be very strong if it resolves and worst case he'll get you closer and closer even to your powerful spells even if its effect misses. If you have Caius or a Malicious in hand and don't mind commiting your normal summon to him you can also search Evil HERO Infernal Prodigy. It's a free Special Summon which makes for great tribute fodder. If you tribute it for Malicious you'll even get a draw during the End Phase.
Miracle Fusion, although technically part of the HERO package, deserves it's seperate mention. It summons Absolute Zero by banishing materials in the GY. Nothing's easier than putting a few monsters in the GY in a format in which games take longer than a single turn. You play a large amount of WATER and HERO monsters and will barely ever find yourself out of luck.
Thanks to cards like Malicious and Miracle Fusion it's very easy to control the number of DARKs in your GY. That means that you can easily set up a Dark Armed Dragon even if you draw into him late into the game.
Now onto the Diva engine. The engine consists of a playset of Deep Sea Diva and a Spined Gillman as the target. Don't forget that Diva can summon itself to link climb into a Synchro 8 with just another level 4 monster. I'll include Treeborn Frog and two Snowman Eater here since they are still WATER monsters that provide advantage and are used as material for Absolute Zero afterwards, even though they're not searchable by Diva.
Last but not least I quickly want to mention Future Fusion. Pre-errata this card sends the materials to the GY when it resolves. This allows to mill both Treeborn Frog and Malicious and sets up your GY for Miracle Fusion, too. Fantastic.
